Clancy finishes strong in Tanner Memorial

Chad Clancy won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

Chad Clancy won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

One hundred thirty-six (136) race cars checked in at I-35 Speedway for the Generational Buildings Finish Strong Mike Tanner Memorial on Saturday, July 8. The Medieval USRA Stock Cars paid $2,020 to win plus other bonuses thoughout the field.

After rains soaked the grounds Friday the I-35 Speedway crew had the track in racy multi-groove shape for this annual event which raises money for the Finish Strong Foundation.

The USRA Modified makeup feature from June 3 hit the track as Tyler Hibner set a torrid pace in picking up the win—his first of the night and fifth of the season.

Lee Hibner battled early on finishing second, current points leader Houston Johnson picked up the third spot with Terry Van Trump and Andrew Thomas earning top-five finishes.

Current national points leader Shadren Turner picked up the featur win in the USRA B-Mods. The win marked his sixth  at I-35 this year and his 14th in Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series competition.

Turner was challenged early with last week’s winner Corey Myers and defending track champion Tyler Cadwallader putting on the pressure, but Turner eventually pulled away for the win.

Jaylen Wettengel made a last-lap effort to challenge as he finished second, Stephen Clancy came home third, Lucas Issacs fourth and Myers fifth. Clancy gained 13 positions to get the hard charger award.

The $2,020-to-win Medieval USRA Stock Car feature brought out a stour 30-car field as Chad Clancy led all 25 laps en route to his second straight win at I-35 Speedway.

Clancy, driving the Tommy Ground-owned No. 33T machine, had a great field behind him as Mich Ross and the winner from two weeks ago, J.J. Baumli, swapped second and third numerous times.

Chris Dishong moved through the field at a torrid pace, eventually working his way up to second. By the time he got to second, however, Clancy was well out of reach and Dishong never got the caution he needed to stack the field up.

Dishong finished second, Ross was third, Baumli wound up fourth and Wettengel, doing double duty, picked up a second top-five in fifth.

Kristchon Hisel won the "B" feature and Jason Estes, the defending Tanner Memorial winner, rebounded from a rollover in his heat race and picked up 12 spots to win the hard charger honors.

Coming from Plattsmouth, Neb., Scott Carlson, got the longest haul bonus.

Tyler Hibner picked up a second win on the night in the USRA Modifieds—his sixth of the season. Chad Clancy, having run 25 laps moments earlier, finish second.

Johnson picked up another third-place finish followed by a rare appearance by Ben Stockton in fourth and the driver coming in to the night sitting third place in the USRA national points, Tyler Grooms.

Stockton gained six positions to take the hard charger award.
