CRESCO, Iowa (June 16, 2002) - Ebbco Construction of Charles City sponsored the night's races at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa on Sunday night.

Modifieds were first to the track with heat wins going to Larry Schmidt, Dan Bohr, and Darin Duffy. Hobby Stocks were up next with heat wins going to Dan Christopher, Darrin Walch, and Jeremy Moellers.

The Stock Car heat winners were Jeff Schluetter, Gerald Peter, and Scott Bauer. Danny Cole and Scott Spilde were heat winners in the Hornets and the Factory Stock winner was Shawn Erickson.

The Cash Dash was the next event on the track, featuring the top two drivers from each heat in the Modified, Hobby Stock, and Stock Car classes. Darin Duffy took the win in the Modified, Dan Christopher in the Hobby Stock, and Jeff Schluetter in the Stock Car. Schluetter was the only driver of the night to accept the Gordy's A Challenge.

The Modified consolation race was next with six cars; five of which advanced to the feature. The winner of the consolation race was Jamie Aikey.

Garry Gulrud moved to the front of the pack early in the Hornet feature and held on to the top spot to pick up the win in this caution free race. Scott Spilde finished second, followed by Danny Cole and Justin Gage.

There was a good battle for first in the Factory Stock feature between Jimmy Brozirt and Shawn Erickson. Erickson started in the front row and held that spot until five laps were left, when Brozirt took it over and held it to the checkered flag. Erickson, Jeremy Geisler, and Robert Malli rounded out the top four.

Todd Schaufenbuel had an early lead in the Modified feature, but had to battle hard with Chad Lerch, Randy Geisler, and Josh Secor. On a restart on lap 12, Schaufenbuel lost position and Geisler took over the lead, but the battle for the lead was not over. Lerch was moving fast on the high side and passed by Geisler, picking up the checkered flag. Geisler finished second, followed by Secor and Schaufenbuel.

The Hobby Stock feature was full of cautions, but also good tight racing. The whole race featured 3-wide racing and a good battle for the lead between Darrin Walch, Tory Reicks, and Steve Holthaus. Reicks was the leader at the half-way point, but lost the lead to Steve Holthaus, who finished on top. Walch took second, Reicks picked up third, and Jeremy Moellers finished fourth.

Jeff Schluetter accepted the Gordy's A Challenge in the Stock Car feature and started in the back of the pack, trying to make his way to the top. Once again, there was a lot of tight racing, especially for the lead. George Watson looked like he could have taken the checkered, until his car broke and sent him to the pits. Scott Bauer came away with this week's win, followed by Gerald Peter, Mike Vsetecka, and Kevin Bidne.

Join us next week with hot laps at 6:00 and racing action immediately after at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa. See you there.
