Davis celebrates 20th birthday, tops USRA RHS Modifieds at Chateau Raceway

LANSING, Minn. -- After heavy overnight and early morning rains of over an inch fell, it was amazing that the Chateau Raceway got a program started this week. Seventy-seven race teams turned out and did a great job to squeeze in a racing program.

During the preliminary heat races a few sprinkles fell, but that part of the program ran off without many caution flags at all.

A.J. Wiste took off from row one in the USRA RHS Modified 25-lap feature. Wiste held off Joe Wernecke from the start, but Wernecke soon had his hands full with Brandon Davis. Davis had worked past Jacob Dahle for third and reeled in Wernecke.

Davis scooted by for second on lap nine and closed in on Wiste. Wiste and Davis put on a good show for several laps when they ran side-by-side. Wiste ran the top and Davis was right on the bottom. Wiste got up a little off his line in turn two on lap 13 and that was all Davis needed to take over.

From there Davis dominated for his first win at Chateau on his 20th birthday. Todd Scharkey put on an excellent show when he drove from row five to second. Wiste finished third with Dahle fourth and Jason Cummins fifth.
