Springfield’s ‘Turkey Classic’ set for Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The start of the 2012 racing season will be kicking off Saturday, March 10, as the 5th Annual O’Reilly Turkey Classic presented by Bad Boy Mowers will be in action at the Springfield Raceway in Springfield, Mo.

Despite a bleak forecast earlier this week, the weather looks to be outstanding as temperatures are to be in the mid-60s with near-perfect conditions for a March event.

The annual event will feature USRA Modifieds battling for some outstanding prize money. The feature winner gets $1,200 while all main event starters earn at least $400. Non-qualifiers are guaranteed $110 if they compete in their last chance event.

USRA national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series will be awarded.

This should be a real test as this event will not allow rear spoilers on the cars. USRA weight rules and chip rules apply and drivers may leave their USRA legal spoiler sides on.

Jody Tillman is the defending champion of the event.

Pit gates open at 11:30 a.m., hot laps are slated for 2:30, draw cut-off is set for 3:30, the drivers meeting is at 4 and racing begins at 4:30 with the first qualifying heat racve.

Pit passes are $35. Car entry fee is only $100.

The grandstands open around 2 p.m. and adult admission is only $20. Kids ages 6-12 are just $5 and children under 6 get in for free.

The 5th Annual O’Reilly Turkey Classic presented by Bad Boy Mowers will also feature Late Models, B-Mods and Legends Cars.
