Green wins clean sweep at Hancock County Speedway

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 3, 2001) - It was another exciting night of racing at the Hancock County Speedway on Friday, August 3 as drivers continued to give the crowd a night of action packed racing sponsored by Unicover of Britt.

In the Limited 360 Modified division, Ed Green of Algona took Clean Sweep honors by winning his heat, dash and feature.

Green took the lead on the fifth lap and held on for the win over Larry Cook of Moorland and Lance Gardner of Garner. Green is in his second year of racing a Limited 360 Modified and seventh overall.

In the IMCA Hobby Stock feature, Rookie, Justin Burmeister of Dumont took his first-ever win, taking the lead on lap five of the 15-lap event. Following him to the checkered was Tony Smidt of Britt and Jared Dirks of Belmond. Earl Webner of Garner finished second.

The excitement didn't stop there, as Kim Schleuger took his third straight win in the IMCA Stock Car feature. Schleuger has been racing for over 10 years and until three weeks ago had come up short of a win. Schleuger started on the first row outside and held on from start to finish for the win.

Following Schleuger to victory lane was Brian Caquelin of Webster City and Scott Johnson of Woolstock.

Scott A. Anderson qualified for the 30-lap Big Bud Shootout after placing second in the cash dash on Friday, August 3.

Current 2001 Big Bud Shootout qualifiers are John Logue, Mike Hejna, Kevin Stoa, Todd Stinehart, Al Hejna, Keith Schmitz, Ron Pope, Scott Olson, Jason Slegh, Jon Wood, Brad Bakken, Ron Haudek, Ryan Hiscocks and Scott A. Anderson.

Winner of the shootout will take home $1,000 with a total purse of $3,000 being awarded.

After starting in eighth position, IMCA Modified driver, Ron Pope of Mason City maneuvered through the pack to take the lead on lap 14 of the 25-lap showdown. With the win, Pope jumped to the second position in points behind Brad Bakken of Garner.

Following Pope to the finish line was Scott A. Anderson of Mason City and Todd Stinehart of Waseca, Minn. Brad Bakken finished fourth.

Nathan Weig of Hubbard took first place honors in the Econo Stock feature while Lance Deal of Fort Dodge placed second and Wesley Houser of Eagle Grove finished third.

On Thursday, August 3, fans and drivers will once again enjoy the racing scene with Hancock County Speedway's Annual Night of 1,000 Stars sponsored by Harris Auto Racing. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission for the evening is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 years of age and children five and under are free.
