Willamette Speedway prepares for Clair Cup this weekend

LEBANON, Ore. -- The Willamette Speedway is happy to have one race out of the way thus far in 2012 and is excited to bring two nights of racing to the historic dirt oval for this Memorial Day weekend. Saturday and Sunday, May 26-27, the Lebanon facility will host the Clair Cup formerly known as the Clair Arnold Memorial.

It is a special event celebrated the life of longtime track owner and promoter Clair Arnold who unfortunately  passed away in the spring of 2009.

For both days of racing the DirtCar Super Late Models will return in action for $16,840 in the weekend’s purse including $2,000 to win on Sunday night and a $500 bonus to any driver who can win both nights of action.

Also in action will be the USRA Modifieds, Sportsmans, Classic Sportsmans and Mini Trucks. Regular admission to the events for both days is the following prices: Adults $14.00, Seniors (62 and Over) $12.00, Children (12 and Under) $6.00, and Pit Passes $25.00. The pit gate opens at noon while general admission gates open at 2:00. Qualifying is scheduled for 3:00 while Racing should be getting started around 6:00 on both days as well.

Last year Mark Wauge won the USRA Modified feature.

The Willamette Speedway has operated since the 1960’s and has been regarded as the “Late Model Capital of the Northwest” for many years and is anxious to host fans with the vast upgrades and improvements done over the 2011-12 winter. The venue will host the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and the American Sprint Car Series-National Tour along with weekly action comprising of DirtCar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classics, and Mini Trucks.
