Dittman wins at Strawberry Cup

LEBANON, Ore. -- Dustin Dittman the two-time and defending USRA Modified track champion at the Willamette Speedway finally made his return to victory lane by capturing the thirty-lap Strawberry Cup feature presented by Napa Auto Parts. The driver from Albany scored his third consecutive Strawberry Cup victory in the classification. The Susan River Reality/Mid Valley Farms #7 X-Factor also became the fourth different car to visit victory lane in four races.

Robert Hoefs of Newport in the Newport Candy Shoppe/Cub’s Cave #57 BMS led initially until the Albie’s Medical Transport/Monty’s Racing Repair #17 Shaw of Justin Evans from Lebanon overtook him on lap five. Evans led for much of the race but several cautions prevented him to run away with the feature.

Casey Vitale of Albany in his Trademark Transmissions/Cottage Grove Yamaha Motorsports #3V Victory was moving through the field and seemed to be the car to beat until rear end issues under caution around lap fourteen forced him to pull off the racetrack. On lap seventeen Dustin Dittman took the lead from then leader Brett James of Albany in the James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body #26 GRT.

From there on it would be Dustin Dittman leading the remainder of the distance for the win. Brett James would finish in second followed by Kyle Yeack of Crawfordsville in his Mountainview Woodworking Inc./Crawfordsville Engineering & Construction #47 Pro in third. Kyle’s father Tom Yeack placed the Moutainview Woodworking Inc./Unlimited Business Service #49 Pro in fourth and Justin Evans completed the top five in fifth.

Craig Hanson of Albany the chauffeur of the Virgil Hanson Automotive Machine/BSB Manufacturing #33C Shaw was fast time of the night at 16.780 seconds as well as winning the trophy dash. Heat race winners were Phil Robinson the driver of the Extraordinaire Heating and Cooling #7R Shaw from Lebanon, Justin Evans, and Kyle Yeack.

The USRA Modifieds return to action to the Willamette Speedway on Saturday June 9th. Other classes in competition will be the DirtCar Super Late Models, Sportsman, Classic Sportsman, and Mini Trucks.
