BANKS, Ore. -- In the last USRA Modified race before the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout stop on June 20, Vernonia’s Doug Davenport lead the entire distance to win the feature at the Sunset Speedway Park on Saturday. The win came in front of a packed house as Fan Appreciation Night brought several fans to take in some great racing at the Banks bullring.

It would be the first win of the season for Davenport in his Joel Olsen Trucking #8D X-Factor. Davenport would also be third different winner in as many races for this season at SSP. A handful of out of town competitors made the trip to the ¼ mile venue to also get experience before the big race in less than a week.

In the previously mentioned story there were a handful of errors. Chris Quinn of Vancouver, Washington in his Dancin Bare #23 Rayburn would finish in the runner-up position and Shady Cove’s Scott Lenz driving the Ron Martin Wholesale #0L Jet, who originally was stated as finishing fifth, was credited with third place. Rayun McMichael the Dancin Bare #05 Hurrikane from Vancouver, Washington would end up finishing fourth and Sandy’s Chris Hallberg in the Discount Race Car Parts #01 FRI completed the top five.

 Lenz was quick time at 14.793 seconds, heat race winners were Doug Davenport, Jenner, and the MNT Transport #21 of Tigard driver Mark Reser, and Shawn Dorie of St. Helens was the trophy dash winner. On Wednesday June 20th the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout will return for what is scheduled to be the fifth round of seven for the 2012 edition and will feature Kenny Schrader racing alongside the USRA Modifieds.

The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway.
