Dalton goes for four in a row this Saturday at Springfield Raceway

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield Raceway is preparing for another of the can't miss special events as the running of the Summer Perry Memorial will be held on Saturday, July 21.

The Perry family operated the Springfield Raceway (then called Airport Speedway) for several seasons and Summer was a former Miss I-44 Speedway. She lost her life to early in life at the age of 29 in a car crash on December 12, 2009. Summer was the instructor of the ALERT gifted program at Inman School in Nixa and was well respected and liked in the community.

"With the Perry Family former owners of Springfield Raceway, it really is only fitting that we have this memorial event there," said Jon Sawyer, who owns and races Midget Cars and started this event because of the Perry family. "Mark and Brenda have always been so active not only in the racing community, but also in the Springfield Area. I wanted to do something special for the family because they are special people and very giving. Loosing a special lady such as Summer was a true loss and we need to keep her memory strong."

In addition to the Midgets this Saturday, action will also include the USRA Modifieds, USRA B-Mods, Midwest Modz, Pure Stocks, and Legends in Transport Graphics points events.

USRA Modified track points leader Jackie Dalton will be aiming for his fourth straight victory Saturday night, but will find a tough field with him. Currently, Mitch Keeter and John Yeoman round out the top 3 in the points standings and Rob Muilenburg of Sparta continues to be a top 10 in the USRA national points and Willard's Robbie Bryant is getting closer to his first 2012 victory.

While USRA Reliable Chevrolet B-Mod points leader Scott Drake leads the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series national standings, he will find Springfield's J.C. Morton expected to be in the pits Saturday night. Morton, ranked third in the national standings, knows the fast way around Springfield while another great field of drivers expected to be on hand.

Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. while the drivers meeting will be at 6:15. Hot laps will start at 6:30 and racing to begin at 7:30. Pit passes will be $30 for this event. Drivers cut-off time is set for 6:45.

Grandstand gates will open at 5:30 with general admission only $15 for this heart-warming special night. Kids prices are only $5 for kids 6-12 and under 6 free.
