Stephen Muilenburg snags $1,000 prize at North Central Arkansas Speedway

FLIPPIN, Ark. -- Another night of extreme heat meant the crowd again arrived late, but another large crowd turned out to watch the exciting racing this evening at North Central Arkansas Speedway. The USRA Modified feature had extra money on the line, paying out $1,000 to the winner, helping to draw the largest starting field of the season to NCAS.

David Marez drew the pole position for the start, with Stephan Muilenburg drawing the outside pole position and Stephan got past Marez to hold a slim advantage on the first lap, with Rob Muilenburg, Dallas Everett and Donnie Stringfellow rounding out the top five. Rob and Everett were in a side-by-side fight over the third spot when the first yellow flag of the race flew, brought out by debris on the track in turn two.

Everett was able to get past Rob for position on lap six after the restart but overdrove the bottom of the track in turn one, spinning out and once again bringing the yellow lights on. Once the field was reset and underway, Marez pulled off the track with a suspected flat tire, leaving Rob in the second spot following Stephan back to full speed. Stringfellow got past Rob for second on lap seven, and Eddie Martin got past Rob one lap later before a single car spin would slow the race again on lap nine.

Martin used the close quarters on the restart to move past Stringfellow for second before the yellow waved again for a single car spin. With the field tightly bunched coming back to speed Kandy Methvin got his car into fifth where he had a great view of the door-to-door battle between Rob and Stringfellow directly in front of him. After watching that fight for three laps, Methvin saw his chance, getting past both drivers for third on lap fifteen before the caution lights once again came on. A three-car accident involving Stringfellow on the attempted restart ended Stringfellow’s chance for a top five finish and his night of racing as well.

Methvin was once again able to use a restart to his advantage to move up in the running order, overtaking Martin on lap seventeen, leaving Martin to try to hold off Rob and a hard-driving Jason Snodgrass. After getting inside and going two-wide for a lap and a half around the track, Snodgrass made it up to fourth on lap nineteen, holding off Rob through the end.

NCAS has another full race program on tap for Friday night July 27th, featuring all seven classes in another night of action packed racing.
