Fisher holds off Johansen for Iron Man Challenge checkers at Nobles County Speedway

WORTHINGTON, Minn. -- He led all 20 laps Sunday night at the Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn., but the win was anything but easy for Jason Fisher as he defended his race-long lead on the final lap to score his first victory in the Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge.

Fisher started third, but grabbed the lead in the main event for the USRA B-Mods by the time the first lap was completed. Meanwhile, Nick Johansen was clawing his was to the front from his outside fifth row starting spot.

In fact, Johansen edged in front of Fisher on lap 16 but an untimely caution flag reset the field with Fisher in control for the restart.

Fisher was able to hold off Johansen over the final four laps, and withstood a final lap surge to claim the $500 top prize while Johansen settled for the runner-up paycheck and his second top-5 finish in as many Iron Man starts this season.

Polesitter Cullen DeRuyder wound up in the third spot with Jared Timmerman taking fourth and Tracy Johnson coming from 17th to grab the fifth position.

Points leader Trevor Hunt snared the sixth spot, Tyler Johnson was seventh, Kylie Kath earned an eighth-place finish, Trevor Fecht nabbed ninth and Jeremiah Christensen completed the top 10.

The Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge returns to action this Thursday, July 26, but this time it will be the USRA Stock Cars in the spotlight as they join the USMTS Modifieds at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., during the World Modified Dirt Track Championship.

The next event featuring the USRA B-Mods will be two weeks later on Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., as they join the racing card for the first race in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup.
