FLIPPIN, Ark. -- Another hot night kicked off the racing for the month of August at North Central Arkansas Speedway, with the action on the track almost as hot as the temperature of the day.

The opening lap of the USRA Modified feature race set the tone for the entire event as the field went three wide behind polesitter and early leader Ray Flippin. John Briggs, Rob Muilenburg and Jason Snodgrass all looked for any advantage they could find driving down the back-stretch, with Briggs and Muilenburg almost nose to nose at the stripe on lap 1 fighting over second.

Muilenburg managed to get past Briggs before the yellow lights came on for a single car spin in turn 1. With the cars tightly packed together for the restart, Muilenburg managed to get past Flippin to take over the top spot on the score sheet on lap 3 while behind him Steve Muilenburg cracked the top 5 by passing three cars to move into third on the same circuit.

Marvin Forrest patiently bided his time near the rear of the field, getting into fifth on lap 4 and watching a fierce battle in front of him as Steve Muilenburg, Briggs and Snodgrass moved around the entire track high and low looking for a lane to use to move forward.

The second caution of the race came out on lap 8 for another single-car spin, and the restart again had the field three-wide fighting for traction. Steve Muilenburgused the middle lane to get into second and Forrest took advantage of the very bottom of the track to get up to fourth before the next lap was scored, with Forrest getting up to third on lap 10.

At the front of the field, Rob Muilenburg and Steve Muilenburg put on a great fight for the lead running door to door for several laps before Steve Muilenburg started to fade with Forrest claiming second on lap 18 just before the final yellow flag of the race came out. Rob Muilenburg got a great restart and pulled away from Forrest and Steve who fought nose to tail until the checkered flag waved.

NCAS has another full race program on tap for Friday night, Aug. 10, featuring all seven classes in another night of action packed racing. The go-karts will hit the track during intermission along with the traditional candy toss for children 12 and under.

North Central Arkansas Speedway is located between Yellville and Flippin on Hwy. 62-412. The gates open at 6:00 on Friday nights, with the racing starting at 8:00. Adult admission - $10; seniors and those with a military ID Card - $8; children 7-14 years of age - $5; kids 6 and under get in free. A family plan is just $20 for 2 adults and any children 14 and under, and a pit pass is available for $25.
