North Central Arkansas Speedway checkers wave for Flippin

FLIPPIN, Ark. -- Heavy rainfall overnight Thursday night and into Friday morning threatened to postpone the entire race program at North Central Arkansas Speedway, but track officials worked hard on the racing surface and the result was some tremendous on-track racing that kept the fans on the edge of their seats all night.

The USRA Modified feature race needed three attempts to get underway, but once it got started the race ran all 20 laps without the yellow flag flying again.

Kandy Methvin and Ray Flippin finally got things started as they charged nose-to-tail into turn one with Flippin out in front running the upper groove.

Methvin had his hands full for several laps as he tried to hold off Rob Muilenburg, as both drivers tried to close on and find a way around Flippin.

Flippin was able to hold off several challenges from Methvin as Methvin ran as low on the track as his car would allow while behind them Muilenburg tried to put his car wherever the leaders weren’t in an effort to move forward.

As the laps counted down towards the end Flippin was able to separate slightly from Methvin to drive to his second feature win of the year.

NCAS has another full race program on tap for Friday, Aug. 25, with racing in every class. The Racing for Education Kids Club will have more giveaways for the kids during intermission along with the traditional candy toss for children 12 and under.

North Central Arkansas Speedway is located between Yellville and Flippin on Hwy. 62-412. The gates open at 6:00 on Friday nights, with the racing starting at 8:00. Adult admission - $10; seniors and those with a military ID Card - $8; children 7-14 years of age - $5; kids 6 and under get in free. A family plan is just $20 for 2 adults and any children 14 and under, and a pit pass is available for $25.
