Modified tribute to Clair this Saturday at Willamette Speedway

LEBANON, Ore. -- Earlier in the season was the Clair Cup at Willamette Speedway that was ran for the DirtCar Super Late Models. That race was in honor of the late longtime track owner and promoter Clair Arnold. This coming Saturday, Aug. 25, It will be the USRA Modified drivers’ turn to race in memory of the man who operated the historic 1/3-mile for several decades. The classes that will be on hand will include the USRA Modifieds, Sportsmans, Classic Sportsmans and PHRA Dwarf Cars.

This year will mark the third running of the event and in the previous two races there have been two different winners. Rob Mayea won the first installment back in 2010 and Dustin Dittman earned the triumph last year.

Lately it has been young Kyle Yeack on the hot streak as last week he earned his fourth USRA Modified feature. Granted one of those four is a non-point win he has managed to visit the winners circle the last three consecutive starts in the division. Justin Evans continues to be the only other repeat winner in the classification with a total of two victories while several drivers that have managed a single win this year include Mark Wauge, Jesse Williamson, Craig Cassell and Dustin Dittman while Ken Schrader was the winner of the non-point Wild Wild West Modified Shootout event.

Admission to the Saturday event is the following prices: Adults $14.00, Seniors (62 and Over) $12.00, Children (12 and Under) $6.00, Family Pass (Two Adults and Up To Four Children) $30.00, and Pit Passes $25.00. The pit gate opens at noon while general admission gates open at 2:00. Qualifying is scheduled for 3:00 while racing should be getting started around 6:00.

Don’t miss out on the Labor Day extravaganza that will be taking place soon. The weekend will feature three nights of racing on the historic 1/3 oval. Saturday September 1st will be the first night of the Bill Workman Memorial and will feature Late Models, Sportsman, Classic Sportsman, and Mini Trucks. Night two, Sunday September 2nd, will be the second night of the Bill Workman Memorial and will feature Late Models while the ASCS-Northwest Region Sprints will compete against the Interstate Sprint Car Series.

On Monday September 3rd the World of Outlaw Sprint Series will make their first ever appearance to Willamette Speedway. Reserved tickets are currently on sale via the track’s website www.trophymotorsports.com but general admission tickets will be on sale the day of the race. General admission prices are Adults are $40.00, Seniors/Youths (7-18)/Military $35.00, Youths (6-Under) $10.00, and Pit Passes are $50.00.

The Willamette Speedway has operated since the 1960’s and has been regarded as the “Late Model Capital of the Northwest” for many years and is anxious to host fans with the vast upgrades and improvements done over the 2011-12 winter. The venue will host the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and the American Sprint Car Series-National Tour along with weekly action comprising of DirtCar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classics, and Mini Trucks.
