Davis wins, locks down Chateau Raceway championship

LANSING, Minn. -- It was the final night for track points at Chateau Raceway in the USRA Modifieds, but Brandon Davis already had his title locked up going into the night. He put an exclamation point on his stellar season with a feature win on Hi-Yield Products Night.

The most cars of the season were on hand in French’s Repair & Fabrication USRA Modifieds tonight. Several USMTS regulars joined the field to get some track time before next Friday’s show, and 21 cars took the green flag for the 25-lap main event with Davis and Todd Scharkey in row one.

Scharkey took off while Davis trailed and they quickly pulled away from the pack. Michael Wytaske and Dave Wytaske Jr. tangled and brought out a caution on lap 4. Again Scharkey and Davis took off and left the pack in their wake while Jacob Dahle shot past Damon Haslip for third and Jeremy Payne entered the top 5.

Scharkey and Davis rocketed around the top of the track and were extremely close on laps 10-11 when they entered lapped traffic. Billy Steinberg stalled in turn 2 on lap13 and brought the field back together. Jason Krohn shot to fourth and then looked low on Dahle. There was another caution for Steinberg and Brian Albrecht on lap later and set up another frantic restart.

Payne shot to third on the green as Mark Noble and Dahle collided on the frontstretch and both cars hit the wall hard. Joe Horgdal and Jeremy Misgen were also caught up in the melee and only Misgen was able to continue. On the start, Payne bounced his right rear off the wall and dropped back to fifth.

Meanwhile, Scharkey and Davis continued their torrid battle up front. Krohn was really on the fly and up to third as the top 3 stretched away from the pack. Davis stepped up his challenge on Scharkey and stole the lead on lap 20. Scharkey then had to deal with Krohn with three to go. Davis cruised to his tenth win of the season in Lansin and Krohn managed to pass Scharkey on lap 23 for second. Rodney Sanders worked his way to fourth and Payne was fifth.

The L&D Ag USRA B-Mods suffered though a couple of early cautions, one for a five- car pile-up in turn 3. Jerry Young led until lap 3 when Ben Moudry scooted past for the lead. Young then had his hands full with Josh Mattick as they battled for the second spot.

Moudry led the rest of the way for his first win at Chateau. Mattick would get by Young on lap eight and finish second. Young finished third while Kylie Kath came from 12th to fourth and John Warrington finished fifth.

Next Friday, Aug. 31, the USMTS Modifieds will be in town for their annual Labor Day swing. The USRA B-Mods, Midwest Modifieds, Stock Cars and Pure Stocks are also on the card for their final point night. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
