Fall Classic to cap season for Willamette

LEBANON, Ore. -- With the weather looking bright and excitement in the air it looks as if the 2012 season will come to a close this Saturday October 6th for the Fall Classic. In the last four years there has always been a Fall Classic on the schedule but only the 2009 edition has been completed. Classes that will compete are USRA Modifieds, PHRA Dwarf Cars, and the USAC Ford Focus Midgets.

“Looking at the weather it should be perfect conditions for racing this Saturday,” stated General Manager Chris Nofziger, “the last few years this event has fell victim to the weather but this year we look to change that statistic.”

The USRA Modifieds have already decided their champion a couple of weeks ago with Kyle Yeack being crowned making Saturday a non-point affair. The race however will go to drivers that are chasing USRA Modified points. Kyle Yeack not only won the championship but also was victorious in five races to earn the most wins of the year. Justin Evans would receive two wins while drivers that managed to post a single triumph through the course of 2012 were Mark Wauge, Jesse Williamson, Craig Cassell, Dustin Dittman, Joe German, and Brody Pompe with Ken Schrader earning the non-point Wild Wild West Modified Shootout race back in June.

The PHRA Dwarf Cars will be on hand for the second time in 2012. In the previous visit Eric Bergquist was the victor back in August and more cars are expected then last time in what should be a fantastic show.

The touring Midget series in the Northwest will be present Saturday with the USAC Ford Focus group making their one and only appearance of the season. Jared Peterson is the man to beat in the organization winning eleven and fourteen events including recently being crowned the 2012 Grays Harbor Raceway Midget champ in Elma, Washington last week. Garret Johnson and Jeremy Miller have also earned wins at GHR while Michael Millard found success at Sunset Speedway Park in Banks.

Admission to the Saturday event is the following prices: Adults $14.00, Seniors (62 and Over) $12.00, Children (12 and Under) $6.00, Family Pass (Two Adults and Up To Four Children) $30.00, and Pit Passes $25.00. The pit gate opens at noon while general admission gates open at 2:00. Qualifying is scheduled for 3:00 while racing should be getting started around 6:00.

The Willamette Speedway has operated since the 1960’s and has been regarded as the “Late Model Capital of the Northwest” for many years and is anxious to host fans with the vast upgrades and improvements done over the 2011-12 winter. The venue will host the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and the American Sprint Car Series-National Tour along with weekly action comprising of DIRTcar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classics, and Mini Trucks.
