FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. -- The Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA B-Mods will be part of the program when the USMTS Modifieds visit the Mississippi Thunder Speedway on Friday, May 3.

The event will have a 7 p.m. starts, and a large field of cars is expected at the track which hosted last September’s record-setting Baehman Law B-Mod Nationals that featured more than 150 entrants.

The season opener at Bob Timm’s high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval is one week earlier on Friday, April 26.

With four races in the books, Jeremy Chambers of Parsons, Kan., leads the points standings for the B-Mods, followed by Kris Jackson, Shawn Strong, Corey Crapser and Steve Muilenburg.

The next event for B-Mods is Thursday, April 18, at the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo. Stock Cars open their campaign on May 25 at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.

Final points will be determined by the best 15 finishes for B-Mods and best 10 finishes for Stock Cars. Although a license is not required to compete in an Iron Man Challenge event, drivers must possess a valid USRA Competitor License, utilize the American Racer KK704 racing tire on all four wheels and compete in at least half of the events for their division to be eligible for points funds.

Both Iron Man Challenge champions in 2013 will earn $1,500 as part of the series points fund, plus numerous contingency awards from the many generous USRA sponsors. Each event will also award national points in the USRA Weekly Racing Series

Last season 360 tough-as-nails pilots took part in the Iron Man Challenge, which features the most talented Stock Car and B-Mod drivers on dirt from the Gulf of Mexico to the Canadian border. Tom Schmitt is the defending champion in the Stock Car class and Trevor Hunt was the 2012 titlist in the B-Mod division.
