Practice complete at Deer Creek... let the season begin

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -- The hard work, long hours, and dedication of so many was put to the test this past weekend at Deer Creek Speedway. As the clock counted down the anticipation climbed. Did we make the right decisions, will our hard work pay off and will our dreams come true were only a portion of the questions on the line.

Nearly 100 teams checked into the back gate knowing they had four hours to see if their hard work was going to pay off.

Nate Wasmund, driver of the #52W Med-City Collision USRA Modified set the bar high early in the night as he climbed to the top of the time charts and posted a quick time of a 16.693 second lap, an average of 80.709 mph around the aggressive 3/8 mile dirt/clay over near Spring Valley, MN.

The action continued throughout the night as teams constantly made adjustments hoping to find that perfect setup. The track was smooth and as it dried up it was almost certain that Wasmund's quick time was going to stand.

Lance Matthees rolled onto the speedway in his #90 WISSOTA Late Model with only a few sessions to go and had something to prove. He looked fast from the drop of the green flag and on the third lap of his final session he found himself at the top of the leaderboard posting a 16.152 lap time with an average of over 83 mph which would stand for the remainder of the night.

Other notables were Joe Ludemann who was third quickest during the night in his #33L WISSOTA Late Model and Brad Waits, driver of the #24 USRA Modified and past winner of the World Modified Dirt Track Championship ended up fourth.

The first race of the season will kick off on Saturday, May 4th and will feature all six weekly classes. The events are scheduled to start at 5:00 and don't forget kids 12 and under get in for FREE!
