LANSING, Minn. -- Mother Nature again tried in vain to end the race program early at Chateau Raceway. Rain fell just before the start of the USRA Modified feature, but it ended quickly and the program ran to its entirety. S&S Auto Salvage, Hormel Foods and Wrad’s Wrags & Awards sponsored the evening’s program.

Kylie Kath took off from row 1 in the L&D Ag USRA B-Mods and looked like he would streak to his fifth win of the season. But not so fast, Justin McMahan got by John Warrington for second, but at that time Kath had checked out. Warrington triggered a caution when his right rear tire blew, shredding his quarter panel and leaving debris on the back-stretch.

Kath led, but McMahan found something on the top side of the track. McMahan tracked down Kath and then made the pass for the win on lap 12. McMahan held on for his first career feature win with Kath second. Kadden Kath finished third while Scott Demmer and Terry Kohnert were fourth and fifth.

Darwyn Karau and Greg Jensen redrew the front row for the French’s Repair & Fabrication USRA Modified main event. Neither driver accepted the Brew Pub Pizza Front Row Challenge, so that potential bonus rises to $1,100 next week.

Jensen bolted to the lead at the start and had a fabulous battle with Brandon Davis on laps five through seven. Davis was right on Jensen but Jensen was not fazed a bit as they went door-to-door for the lead.

Davis took over on lap 8 and led the rest of the 25-lap race for his fourth win of the season. Jensen’s excellent run ended in second while Todd Scharkey out-dueled Doug Hillson for third and Damon Haslip was fifth.

Next Friday, July 5, is the annual Fireworks Night at Chateau Raceway. It features a full night of racing and then one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in Southern Minnesota will take place. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing is at 7 p.m.
