KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Darron Fuqua dominated the USRA Modified feature by lapping more than half the field Friday night at the Lakeside Speedway. The Mayetta driver started from the pole and never looked back in a race that went caution-free and took just nine minutes to complete.

Jason Bodenhamer gave chase the entire race but could never get to within a front-stretch length of Fugua’s back bumper. Bodenhamer finished third at the end as Nic Bidinger, in a borrowed car, worked his way through the field to finish second. Luke Driskell and last week’s feature winner, Tim Karrick, battled hard the entire race and finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Brad Smith, whose first career victory came on May 8, 2004, picked up his 99th career trophy in the USRA B-Mods. The second-generation driver from Belton, Mo., needed just four laps to go from his inside row-4 starting position and take the lead from Terry Bruner.

Bruner faded as the race for second and third started to develop. Points leader Aaron Marrant and last week’s feature winner, Chad Clancy, went back and forth numerous times with Marrant barely edging out Clancy for second. Former champions Gene Claxton and Nick Newton rounded out the top 5.

“Racing on the River’s Edge” continues every Friday night through October with the USRA Modifieds and USRA B-Mods, plus Grand Nationals and Factory Stocks. Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps start at 6:45 and the first race gets underway at 7:30. Adult ticket prices are $12, kids ages 7-12 are $6 and children 6 and younger are admitted free. Seniors and military personnel with ID are admitted for $10.
