Kylie over Kadden in Kath 1-2 at Chateau Raceway

LANSING, Minn. -- A few light showers passed over Chateau Raceway while drivers checked in and fans entered the front gates. It did not dampen things enough and racing returned after a week off for “Gold Rush” night for the kids on RS Auto Rebuilders Night.

Josh Mattick and Brian Schrage opened the L&D Ag USRA B-Mod feature with a great race for the lead. Kadden Kath and Jesse Baer were side-by-side for third through the first seven laps. Rick Utley and Tanner Johnston got tangled up to bring out the caution on lap seven.

Mattick and Schrage bounced off each other on the start and Kadden Kath took over second while older brother Kylie moved up to fourth. Brad Minske would spin to trigger another caution flag on lap 11. The race broke down a bit at this point as Schrage got high and allowed Kylie Kath and Scott Demmer to zip past. Jesse Baer would stall and Taylor Ausrud spun for another yellow on lap 12. On the start, Demmer spun and collected six cars as the yellow flag got a workout.

When the green returned, Kylie Kath made a big move to second and diced with Mattick for the lead. Mattick tried a big move from the bottom to the top with two laps left as he tried to keep the lead, but lost momentum and both the Kath’s stormed past with Kylie now in the lead. Kylie led his brother Kadden to the checkered flag for his fifth win of the year. Mattick would end the race in third with Justin McMahan in fourth and Schrage fifth.

The Brew Pub Pizza Front Row Challenge Bonus was up to $1,400 this week for the French’s Repair & Fabrication USRA Modifieds. With 16 cars on hand, once again the heat race winners had the option for the bonus. Jason Cummins won heat 2 and took the challenge of going to the tail of the 25-lap feature.

Damon Haslip took the early lead with Jacob Dahle close behind. Dahle charged past Haslip on lap three with Joe Horgdal in third. Brandon Davis had charged from row five and was up to fourth after four circuits. Davis bolted past Horgdal for third on lap five and then drove past Haslip for second one lap later.

Todd Scharkey got by Horgdal for fourth and then rallied past Haslip for third on lap eight. Davis had reeled in Dahle and the race was on for the lead. Davis drew side-by-side with the leader and took over the spot on lap nine. Scharkey and Haslip continued their good battle for third as they were right behind Dahle.

Scharkey finally got away from Haslip and went after Dahle. Meanwhile, Davis had checked out up front and was long gone. Davis won his sixth of the season by a nine second margin. Scharkey passed Dahle for second on lap 22 while Haslip finished fourth and Darwyn Karau was fifth. Cummins came from the tail of the 16-car field to finish sixth, so the bonus will rise up to $1,500 next Friday.
