BAYTOWN, Texas—A field of 61 USRA Limited Mods were on hand Thursday night for the opening night of the 7th Annual Lecolift Texas Winter Nationals presented by 4s Motorsports at the Royal Purple Raceway.

John O. Whittington of Vidor, Texas, captured the 20-lap main event to earn the $500 winner’s share of the prize money at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval.

Whittington bested Corpus Christi’s Steve Whiteaker Jr. for the win, with veteran Paul White of Temple coming home third. Shane Hebert was fourth and Garrett Higgins rounded out the top five.

Sixth through tenth, respectively, were Howard Willis, Adam Epperson, Josh Ferguson, Dean Abbey and Ryan Harris.

Officials up the ante on Friday night with a $1,000 top prize up for grabs.

The pit gate opens at 3 p.m., grandstands open at 5  drivers meeting is at 6:30 and racing begins at 7. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and children 5 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35.
