Lakeside Speedway seeking donations for new museum

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- At 60 years old, Lakeside Speedway is one of the oldest operating short tracks in the nation and it is recognized as having produced some of the finest race car drivers in the history of the sport.

We will now be able to celebrate all that Lakeside Speedway has been and continues to be with the new Lakeside Speedway Museum, located on the second floor of Lakeside Speedway’s main building at 5615 Wolcott Dr., Kansas City, KS 66109.

It is free to enter and open to the public.

Since its inception in 1955 there have been national champions competing weekly, dozens of track champions and hundreds of feature winners, not to mention the tens of thousands of dedicated race fans who have experienced this half-mile racing wonder.

Lakeside Speedway has had different physical track locations, numerous owners, different classes, run under different sanctioning bodies and has overcome numerous challenges along the way.

All of this and more we are going to celebrate, but we need your help.

We are looking for donations or items to display. Do you have anything that speaks of the history of Lakeside Speedway? Old trophies collecting dust? Old photographs? Old programs in boxes? An old drivers suit or helmet?

If you do, we would like to clean it up, do a write up about the piece and put it out so everyone can enjoy reliving the history of Lakeside Speedway.
