Deer Creek readies for action

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (April 11, 2003) - With the plans for racing action to begin at the Southern Mn. speedplant this weekend mother nature played a cruel joke on the drivers and fans alike. This past week a very wet and heavy 10" of snow fell over the southern part of the state. The snow has melted off during the last couple days but has left the pit area in tough shape for the planned racing activities. With last weeks test n tune session cancelled this years schedule has been pushed back a week. This Saturday April 12th from 4-9 pm there will be an open practice session at Deer Creek for all classes of cars. The grandstands will be open free of charge for those fans wanting to see some of the new cars as they practice for the upcoming season.

Racing action will get underway April 19th with the evenings racing sponsored by Carla's Finish Line of Austin Mn. For the month of August all kids under the age of 12 will be admitted free to the racetrack with the month ending in the third USMTS show of the season. The USMTS show will have the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks on hand along with the Modified Lites.

September finds the return of the biggest show of the season in Southern Minnesota with the 5th Annual Featherlite/USMTS Fall Jamboree. Last years show saw just over 100 of the best modified drivers from twelve states on hand to do battle for the title. On Thursday Sept 18 the modifeds will be on hand along with Pure Stocks and the WISSOTA Street Stocks. Friday Sept 19th finds the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds joining the card with the USMTS Modifieds. The season and the month of September will close with a bang with the Annual Fall Festival for the USRA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks on hand to do battle on the highbank speedway.

Many improvements have been made to the track over this past winter with a fresh clay surface put on the track and re-contoured and shaped banking which will really improve the racing excitement at the track. Also new this year for the benefit of the fans will be a scoreboard that is being erected over the top of corner three. The scoreboard will really help the fans stay involved in the racing activities each night at the track. Some new patio booths have been erected on the front of the VIP towers. With the racing action improving on the track and the constant improvement to the track itself the Deer Creek Speedway is moving to the front as a fan friendly place and driver friendly racetrack and is becoming one of the premier tracks in the upper Midwest.
