Schultz triumphs in Central Missouri Speedway grand reopening

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- A huge crowd packed the stands at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) Saturday night for the track’s official opening night.

Drivers and fans alike were thrilled to be back in attendance at the track on KOKO AM 1450 Radio Night.

The exciting news rolled in late Wednesday afternoon from the United States Racing Association, that CMS’s weekly Modified program was approved to be USRA-sanctioned for the 2014 season.

The fans were happy to hear the roar of engines with a good field of drivers on hand to entertain the crowd.

Fourteen drivers competed throughout the evening.

Jason Bodenhamer tumbled several times in turn 3 in heat race 1, he was uninjured in the incident and his crew made repairs in time for him to return for the main event to close out the evening.

Terry Schultz and Dean Wille snatched the two heat race checkers.

On the opening laps of the feature, Schultz led the field into turn one and never looked back for the 25-lap main event.

Back in the field, Trevor Hunt and Wille battled early on with Aaron Marrant in the mix just behind.

No one really ever challenged Schultz as he captured the win and the $1,000 payout.

Hunt looked strong in second with Marrant, Tyler Schmidt and Jim Moody filling out the top five.
