KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- In an action-packed USRA B-Mod feature Friday night at the Lakeside Speedway, the lead changed numerous times before the checkers were shown. With a great late-race maneuver, Mike Higley used his Ford horsepower and the high line on the track to claim the night’s top spot. With an always great gesture, all kids who visited his pits after the race received a trophy of their own. Early leader Yancy Shepard raced side by side with a fast Brad Smith with Shepard using the low line and Smith on the high side, Shepard edged Smith at the line to place second leaving Smith third. Doug Keller challenged for the lead early only to fade to fourth in the late stages, with the always-smooth Chad Clancy rounding out the top five.

USRA Stock Cars, as always, were in fine form taking to the half-mile of dirt and putting on a show of epic proportions. Throwing a blanket over the top ten drivers at any time during the race and not knowing the winner until the last turn of the last lap, fans witnessed Justin Seifert pick up the victory. Seifert was challeneged every turn of every lap by second-place finisher Brett Heeter. Early race leader Marshall Jewett slipped one time and lost two spots and be forced to settle for third. With a great run from the back of the pack, Joe Smith Jr. earned a solid fourth-place finish. Dean Hensler was the big mover of the night, coming from deep in the pack to finish fifth.

USRA Modifieds displayed one of the best features of the year as Terry Schultz wheeled his way past the fast Kerry Davis on his way to victory lane. Davis used the low line to challenge Schultz every lap while holding off the high side flying of Tim Karrick. Davis finished in second with Karrick in third. Last year’s track champion, Nic Bidinger, charged through the pack to challenge the three front-runners only to run out of laps and place fourth. One of the fastest cars of the night was Jared Steins coming from a rear starting position to race his way into the fifth finishing spot.

Lakeside Speedway would like to give a special thanks to all of the kids who participated in the “foot races” down the front straight. All kids would receive a winners ribbon as they all were winners. We would like to thank our fans for braving the elements to enjoy a great night of racing activities.
