Rain, flood cancels Father’s Day race at Huset's Speedway

BRANDON, S.D. -- A small rain shower at 12:50 p.m. turned an already water logged Huset’s Speedway into a 3/8 mile of mud soup. The Father’s Day event is canceled.

The fifth rainout of the season is particularly disappointing to Huset’s staff who had been working at the speedway since 6:30 a.m. to keep ahead of the rising floodwater from Split Rock Creek. The speedway had activated an alternative parking plan and had taken necessary precautions to ensure patrons were safe despite floodwater in the southern third of the parking lot.

At the same time as the thundershower, the Split Rock Creek made a rapid rise of about one foot.
