Davis, Clancy, Harward own Lakeside Speedway checkers

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Kerry Davis ended a two-year Lakeside Speedway dry spell by winning the USRA Modified feature Friday night at the Lakeside Speedway. Davis started outside row 3 in the 25-lap event and needed better than half of the race to find a way around early race leader Trevor Hunt. Diving in deep going in to turn 1, Davis was able to motor door to door with Hunt all the way to turn 3. By the exit of turn 4, Davis had the lead and would not relinquish it. Darron Fuqua fell back from the pole to fifth but was able to climb back up through the field to finish second. Fuqua, Mark Schafman and Nic Bidinger battled from lap three for position with Schafman and Bidinger finishing third and fourth, respectively. Hunt rounded out the top 5.

Chad Clancy continued his win-every-other-week streak in the USRA B-Mod division by leading at the end of the 15-lap event. The current point leader needed almost half of the race to find a way around early race leader, Gene Claxton. While Clancy and Claxton were duking it out Brad Smith was quietly working his way from 8th to second at the end. One time point leader, Yancy Shepard, made his presence felt at the end by battling with Claxton and taking third. Ed Noll would finish fifth, right behind Claxton.

The USRA Stock Car division feature featured another first-time winner as Mike Harward scooted to victory lane after the 15-lap event. What makes this most remarkable is that the Iowa driver had never raced at Lakeside Speedway until tonight. He is now the 10th different driver to win a feature this season. Harward may have inherited the lead after an early race accident but he showed great poise and consistency in holding off the entire field. Gary Harward, Joe Smith, Jr and Gene Stigall provided multi-lap excitement as they battled for position, finishing second, third and fourth. Corey Strothman rounded out the top-five.

“Racing on the river’s edge” continues every Friday night through October with the USRA A-Modifieds, Grand Nationals, USRA B-Modifieds and USRA Stock Cars. Gates open at 5:00pm, hot laps at 6:45pm, and the first race gets under way at 7:30pm. Adult ticket prices are $12.00, kids 7-12 $6.00, and children 6 and younger admitted FREE.
