KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- For a second time this season at the Lakeside Speedway, the USRA Modified feature saw a first-time winner and his name is John Stiens. While Stiens has won multiple feature races this was his first at Lakeside. The 25-lap event started out with Terry Schultz taking the early lead and Steins taking control on lap 4. Current point leader, Nic Bidinger, kept working his way toward the front, taking advantage of a perfect line coming out of two, and took the lead on lap 14. Bidinger led only two laps before Steins used lapped traffic perfectly and regained the lead on lap 16, never looking back on his way to victory lane. Bidinger finished second to a hard-charging Tim Karrick. Last week’s winner, Kerry Davis, finished fourth while Mark Hoover rounded out the top-five.

Chad Clancy continued his win-every-other-week streak in the USRA B-Mod division by leading at the end of the 15-lap event. The current point leader needed 13 of the 15 laps and a little bit of lady luck to take the lead from Ed Noll. Noll initially took the lead from Shadren Turner and looked poised to capture a first victory at Lakeside until a slight bobble opened the door for Clancy. Clancy drove through the door on his way to a 5th win this season. Yancy Shepard started fifth and finished second to Turner’s third. Gene Claxton and Jake Richards rounded out the top five.

Gene Stigall doubled up in the win column after the 15-lap USRA Stock Car division feature. This was not however a race that favored lap leaders. Early leader Phil Snodgrass led early but fell back, Brett Heeter was leading until mechanical issues forced him out of the race and then Kevin Anderson briefly led until mechanical issues forced him out early. Stigall inherited the lead on lap-11 and was able to keep lady-luck on his side until the end. Anthony Whitham finished second in front of Dean Hensler, who started 12th. Snodgrass finished 4th while Joe Smith, Jr rounded out the top-five.

“Racing on the river’s edge” continues every Friday night through October with the USRA Modifieds, Grand Nationals, USRA B-Mods and USRA Stock Cars.  Gates open at 5:00pm, hot laps at 6:45pm, and the first race gets under way at 7:30pm.  Adult ticket prices are $12.00, kids 7-12 $6.00, and children 6 and younger admitted FREE. Senior Citizen’s and military personnel with ID are admitted for $10.
