Hotter than July racing continues at CMS Saturday night

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The only thing hotter than the mid-summer temperatures in the Midwest is the racing action about to unfold at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) this Saturday for Heartland Waste Race Night featuring USRA Modifieds, B-Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Guest Class Grand Nationals.

Last weekend was a near-perfect night of racing at CMS for drivers and fans in attendance and nothing short of that is expected again this weekend when the driver contingent and loyal fans return for another week of championship point’s racing at the speedway.

Grand Nationals return as the guest class this week for their third appearance of five this season. So far this year, Tim Shields and Gary Donaldson have claimed the main events contested by the Grand National drivers with Donnie Brown also visiting victory lane in heat-race action.

For the regular racing divisions, headlined by the ‘Mighty’ Modifieds, four-time feature winner Jim Moody of Odessa leads the standings over Terry Schultz, Tim Karrick, Dean Wille, and Aaron Marrant. Moody claimed last week’s main event in a classic battle to the finish by overtaking Schultz late in the race for the victory.

Brett Wood has owned the Street Stock division this year with seven main-event wins so far this season. He leads the standings heading into this weekend ahead of Concordia, Missouri’s Jeremiah Wilson, Troy Turley, Herb Dannar, and Larry Ferris.

B-Modified racing has produced some exciting action and impressive car counts this year with four-time main event winner Dean Wille of Warrensburg leading the pack. Richard Brainard of Sedalia, Missouri now sits second behind Wille, followed by Ernie Walker, Troy Carlyle, and Eddie Bray, Jr. in the standings.

Young driver Leroy Morrison of Raymore tops the standings in the Pure Stocks heading into this week ahead of two-time main event winner Gary Akers, Bobby Raybourn, Don Johnson, and Darrin Christy. The class seems to be gaining momentum with many phone calls coming in from curious drivers wanting to know if the class is going to be around next year … the answer to that question is, yes, the class will return next season!

Kid’s Night is fast-approaching at CMS to the delight of kids up to 12 years old looking to compete in the annual foot races on the track during intermission time. Many activities are planned on Saturday, August 2 for kid’s night, in which all kids up to age 12 entering the gates that night will receive a free hot dog and drink courtesy of promoters Earl and Susan Walls. In addition, each foot race winner in the five boys and girls division that night will receive medals for their foot race wins.

The Mid-America Lightning Sprint Drivers will participate in an on-track autograph session during the foot race activities and all kids up to age twelve will receive a free goody bag stuffed full of memorable items including school supplies, trinkets, candy, coupons, and school supplies. Donations of aforementioned items are being taken at the pit entrance for kid’s night up to Saturday, August 2.
