Teske, Randall score sweeps at Fox Ridge

by Todd Narveson

ARCADIA, Wis. (Aug. 24, 2001) - Mark Teske and Jimmy Randall helped out their cause in the WISSOTA national point chase scoring clean sweeps tonight at the Fox Ridge Speedway.

First on the speedway for their main event was the WISSOTA Street Stocks for their 15-lap race. Jeremy Sommer and Jimmy Randall paced the field as the came to the green flag.

Randall quickly jumped to the lead with Sommer and Scott Paulson close behind. A couple of early cautions for minor spins kept the field tightly packed in the opening laps.

Randall pulled a few car lengths as Sommer and Paulson battled for the second position. Paulson shot to second as Shawn Wehlage and Travis Krause were on the move and into the top five.

Randall still held the top spot with Paulson trailing at halfway. The best race was for third as Sommer, Wehlage and Krause had a dandy battle going on. Another yellow on lap eight closed up the field again.

On the restart, Krause got a good run going on the cushion and bolted past Sommer for third on the ninth circuit coming out of turn four. One last yellow on lap eleven would set up a four lap dash to the finish.

Randall still had the lead, but Paulson was getting racy behind him trying to find a way around. On the final lap, Paulson made a great move to the inside coming out of turn four, but came up just a bit short of Randall at the line. For Randall, it was a clean sweep as he also won his heat race.

Krause finished his good run coming from ninth to third, with Sommer in fourth and Wehlage finishing fifth after starting in the tenth spot.

The 20-lap WISSOTA Super Stock feature was up next. Mark Teske and Steve Hallquist were in row one as the green got things underway. Teske and Hallquist raced door to door for the lead as Kevin Hager, Jon Duffy and Curt Myers raced for third through fifth.

Teske was running the low groove with Hallquist in the middle part of the track as the continued to be side by side for the first five laps. Hager and Myers were now racing for third as John Doelle cracked the top five.

Teske used the low groove to finally take the lead on lap six. Myers had slipped by Hager for third and Doelle now challenged Hager for fourth. A yellow for a spin on lap 7 slowed things down.

On the restart, Teske pulled away a bit as Myers now challenged Hallquist for the runner up spot. Jason Johnson got a good restart and bolted into the top five.

Myers made the pass for second in turn one on lap eight as he slid to the inside of Hallquist. Now a good battle was shaping up as Johnson and Doelle challenged Hallquist for the third position.

Johnson raced by for third on lap ten and Doelle also got by Hallquist for fourth the very next lap. Johnson and Doelle then duked it out for third with Doelle taking the position on lap twelve. A yellow flew on lap fifteen and set up a five lap dash to the finish.

Teske took off on the restart a picked up the win and also got out the broom in taking home the clean sweep for the evening. Myers finished a solid second with Doelle coming home third after starting ninth. Johnson's great run ended in fourth after starting eleventh and Hallquist finished fifth.

Twenty-one open-wheeled modifieds took the green flag for their 30-lap, $1000 to win feature event. Les Duellman started on the pole after winning his heat and the dash and quickly pulled away.

Things were wild behind Duellman as cars raced three wide for position at times. A couple of early yellow stalled the action. A six car melee in turn two on the fifth lap eliminated Bruce Angst, Todd Scharkey, Jason Nordhagen and Dana Lerum from the race.

After that crash, a series of yellows flew and it took three tries to get a lap in. During that time Jay Ihrke and Steve Speltz both went pitside to change flat tires and rejoined in the back.

Duellman was in a different time zone all night as he checked out to a full straightwaway advantage over Brad Waits. The race behind Waits was incredible as Dan Hesch was powering around the very top on the cushion with Hank Rollinger Jr., Leroy Scharkey, Troy Langowski, Tim Ludwigson racing for position.

On lap twenty-six, that battle ran out of racing room on the backstretch as Rollinger and Scharkey touched with Scharkey smacking into the concrete wall and the caution flew again.

Duellman again checked out and scored the impressive win over Brad Waits. Rollinger was third with Hesch's exciting driving on the cushion in the fourth spot. Ihrke worked his way back to finish in the top five.

Mechanics races were also held with Scott Kunda and Derek Sutton winning the street stocks and Randy Nastvold along with Jarred Amundson winning the super stocks. Jan Hofer won the modifieds.

The girls got their chance to drive in the powder puffs tonight. Winners were Susan Jacobsen in the street stocks and Tracy Hager in the super stocks.

Racing continues on Friday, August 31 with $1000 to win the WISSOTA Late Models, $600 to win the modifieds, $450 for the WISSOTA Super Stocks and $250 to win the WISSOTA Street Stocks. Racing gets underway at 7:30pm.
