Pember wins 4th straight

ARCADIA, Wis. (July 12, 2002) - Super stock driver Mark Teske held off a strong challenge from Gary Wiersgalla and Jason Johnson to notch his third victory of the season Friday night at the Fox Ridge Speedway.

First time visitor Tracy Larson led the opening lap of the 20 lap feature. Teske pulled alongside Larson on lap 2 and made the pass going down the back chute. The caution was waved on lap three when Lyle Schlomer spun in turn four. The spin collected the cars of Troy Brand and Jon Duffy. Severe front end damage ended the night for both Duffy and Schlomer. Teske led the restart and jumped out to a comfortable lead. Back in the field, points leader Gary Wiersgalla and Jason Johnson were negotiating their way through traffic.

Wiersgalla moved from eighth to fourth in the next two laps, meanwhile Johnson entered the top five on lap eight. A couple of laps later the two drivers were running second and third while Teske maintained his lead. An incident involving Ben Anderson and Josh Rodewald in turn two on lap 15 set the stage for a five lap shootout.

Teske held his low line while Wiersgalla searched the cushion seeking some extra bite. Johnson followed Teske throught the low groove. Wiersgalla would gain ground on Teske racing down the backstraight and through turns three and four. Teske would then pull away racing in turn one and two. Teske held off Wiersgalla, Johnson came home in third with Dan Nissalke and Dan Arneson rounding out the tip five. After the race Wiersgalla said that his car lacked the forward bite to gain enough ground on Teske to complete the pass.

Lance Matthees led start to finish to gain the win in the late model feature. Matthees dove to the bottom at the start of the main. The strategy paid off as he drove by front row starters Jeff Keeney and Scott Cramer. A lap later Steve Isenberg would follow Matthees line on the bottom and move into second.

Further back in the field, Keith Foss and Bob Timm were charging to the front. Timm, in a new Mastersbilt chassis moved from eighth to third by lap six. Foss, also moved into the top five on lap six. The two Winona pilots battled for position until lap 12 when Foss moved around Timm. A lap eleven caution slowed the field and put Isenberg on Matthees bumper.

Matthees pulled away on the restart as Isenberg chased, the rookie pilot would reel Matthees in through corners three and four and then lose ground in turns one and two.

Matthees picked up his second win at the track this season. Isenberg trailed followed by Foss, tenth starting Tom Nesbitt and Timm.

Eric Pember is on a roll in the modified class. Pember won his fourth straight feature outlasting Karl Fenske in the process. Fenske grabbed the lead from row one to start the event. Pember and Shane Wehrs were early pursuers of the veteran mod driver looking for win number one this season.

A lap three caution for Danny Hesch bunched the field, Fenske got the jump on the restart and pulled away. Fenske led the next several laps as Pember trailed. Fenske's five car margin was negated when Bruce Angst's mount suffered a flat rear tire. The yellow put Pember on Fenske's tail for the lap 12 restart. This time Pember stayed with Fenske. Fenske bobbled coming out of turn four and Pember made the pass at the finish line. Pember was then able to hold off Fenske for the remainder of the event.

Eleventh starting, Bob Timm worked his way through the field and actually passed Fenske on the last lap. Mechanical gremlins struck both drivers as Fenske's rear tire blew. Timm's car temporarily shut down allowing several cars to get by before he could refire. Fenske limped home in second. Shane Wehrs, Troy Langowski, and Kerry Ledebuhr completed the top five.

Street stocker Travis Krause made an early pass of leader Randy Bradford to win his third feature in his last four outings. Bradford lead the first four laps while Krause picked off Dennis Davis and Darryl Foegen. Krause took over the lead on lap five. Jimmy Randall was on the move in his streeter. Randall started tenth and raced into third by lap five. Randall made his move on Bradford on lap eight and set off for Krause. Krause was able to hold Randall at bay, while third in fourth runners Foegen and Bradford battled for the show position. The two sapped the spot over the last three laps, Bradford prevailed. Foegen finished fourth with Matt Theisen fifth.
