Donlinger takes USMTS checkers at Fox Ridge

ARCADIA, Wis. (July 20, 2001) - The first night of two in the State of Wisconsin for the USMTS Modifieds started at Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia, Wis. Tim Donlinger started the race from the fourth position and had to work his way around pole sitter and north region point leader Kelly Shryock en route to his first USMTS north region win of the season.

The man on the move on Friday night was the hottest series driver for June Mike Chasteen. Chasteen had problems in his heat race when the drive shaft broke when Chasteen was chasing down Jay Ihrke for second. Chasteen worked to get the car fixed and did, bit not before the B-main and had to use a provisional to get into the race. Chasteen started the race from the eleventh row outside and worked his way around cars using all different lines on the racetrack. Chasteen would have to settle with a runner-up finish as time ran out and Donlinger would pick up the win with Chasteen right on the bumper of the Donlinger car.

The start of the race saw Kelly Shryock jump out into the early lead with Corey Dripps in second, by lap five Donlinger had worked his way around Dripps and Jason Hughes with his sights set on Shryock. Donlinger and Shryock would race side by side with these two drivers switching spots back and forth throughout the race.

By lap nineteen Donlinger would take the top spot and lead the final sixteen laps. Chasteen by lap ten had worked his way to tenth, by lap twenty was running fifth right behind Tommy Myer. Chasteen would work his way around Shryock on lap thirty-one and started reeling in Donlinger as time ran out.

The Harris Auto Racing Heat Races were won by Shryock, Mike Spaulding, Corey Dripps, Tim Donlinger, and Todd Sharckey. The Midwest Motorsports B-mains were won by Nathan Kilwine and Les Duellman.

Forty-four cars checked in for the racing action with a full grandstand watching the race. The hard luck driver of the night was Kevin Peters who had a brand new M&M car with its third night out had something go wrong with the steering and putting it into the cement wall ending his night. Kevin was having a very good run going at the time of the accident.
