Teske triumphant in Fox Ridge Super Stocks

by Chris Stepan

ARCADIA, Wis. (July 29, 2001) - The Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia welcomed a regular racing program with a very strong field of WISSOTA Late Models highlighting the action.

The Street Stocks were the first main event of the night and saw newcomer Butch Madsen redraw the pole and jump out into the early lead in his # 94. Jimmy Patzner made an early race charge and pulled up to the outside of Madsen for the top spot while Jimmy Randall and Travis Krause were making charges through the field from their mid-pack starting spot.

Danny Hanson was on the move as well and appeared in second and set off after Madsen for the lead. Krause and Randall continued their battle for position as they were still making up ground on the front runners. Randall got through traffic before Krause and set off after Patzner in a battle for second, while Madsen continued to show the way.

Randall was running extremely well through the middle groove around the speedway and shot by Patzner into the second on lap 8 and quickly began to reel in Madsen for the lead. Randall got to the outside of Madsen for the lead on lap 13 and ran door to door for the top spot until the white flag flew. Madsen held his line up front, but Randall would not give in and shot by Butch into the lead and stole the win on the last circuit. Madsen came home in second and Krause rallied to claim a third place finish.

After 4 tries to get the Super Stock feature underway, the green finally flew and Shatney Sanders shot into lead with Jason Johnson a close second, while Curt Myers and Mark Teske were engaged in a spirited battle for second. John Doelle was making progress through the field from his mid pack starting spot and appeared in the top five early on. Teske shot to the outside of Sanders for second and quickly reeled in Johnson, who had stolen the way from Sanders a lap previous. Teske then was able to reel in Johnson and began to pressure him for the lead, while Myers also slipped by Sanders in to third.

Teske continued to dog Johnson for the lead until lap 12, when Teske was able to get up enough momentum to shoot by into the lead. Teske then began to stretch his advantage over Johnson for the remainder of the event. Teske raced to his first win of the season at the Ridge with Johnson and Myers rounding out the top three finishers.

Bruce Angst took the lead at the start of the Modified main event, but Bob Timm quickly shot to the outside of Angst for the top spot on lap 2 and never looked back. Timm got out front and immediately bolted away from the field. Dan Hesch, Troy Langowski and Angst were all now locked in battle for the second position while Timm continually pulled away from the field. Hesch cleared Langowski and Angst and set off after Timm for the top spot and on several occasions looked to the inside of him for the lead on several occasions. Timm was very strong on the high side as he ran away for his first win in a Modified this season.

Kyle Chiglo was flying around the high side of the speedway and was picking off cars left and right on his way toward the front. Chiglo appeared in third toward the end of the event and shot to the inside of Hesch for second on the last lap. Chiglo and Hesch ran side by side for the final circuit and Chiglo nipped Hesch at the line for second at the checkered. Lance Matthees took the lead from his pole position starting spot in the Late Model main event. Matthees shot out to a big advantage early while Jerry Redetzke and Keith Foss were locked in battle for second. Redetzke cleared Foss into second and began to chase down Matthees up front. Redetzke was running the extreme high line and was reeling in Matthees up front. Redetzke was putting on a show on the high side, but could not quite get up enough momentum to shoot by Matthees for the lead.

While Redetzke continued to try to pull alongside of Matthees up front, Duane Mahder moved in to battle with Foss for third. Mahder was able to slip by Foss into third on lap 16 and began to set off after the leaders. Bob Timm and Ashley Anderson were also locked in battle for fifth as the laps began to wind down.

Matthees and Redetzke were still running close together for the lead until a lapped car took Redetzke's line away, allowing Matthees to cruise the final several laps to his third win of the season at the Ridge. Redetzke ran a solid second and Mahder rounded out the top three.

Racing resumes this Friday at the Ridge with action for Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Street Stocks and the return of the MSS Sprint Cars. The Late Models will take the night off from action. For more information, please check out the tracks website at www.foxridgespeedway.com.
