Doelle dominant in first Fox Ridge super win

ARCADIA, Wis. (July 6, 2001) - The Fox Ridge Speedway hosted another entertaining night of racing on Friday, July 6th with full fields of WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks and WISSOTA Street Stocks. The highlight of the night was the first win of the season for Arcadia driver John Doelle in his # 94 Super Stock.

Street Stocks were up first for the night's festivities with Daryl Foegen taking the lead at the drop of the green with Shaun Wehlage and Danny Hanson duking it out for second early on. Jim Randall was making his presence felt as well by ducking to the inside of Wehlage for third on lap 2. Randall was able to steal the spot away as Hanson was in the process of stealing the lead away from Foegen. Just as Hanson got out front, Foegen lost a wheel off of his # 31 machine and bunched up the field as he slowed down the front stretch.

On the restart, Randall and Wehlage again began to duke it out for position, as did Jeremy Sommer and Travis Krause just behind the leaders. At one point Randall, Sommer, Krause and Wehlage raced 4-wide out of turn four for second as Hanson sat out front. Randall escaped the skirmish first and set off after Hanson, who he ducked under for the lead on lap 7. Krause was following Randall's lead and slipped by Hanson into second on the next lap.

Behind the leaders, John Laumb and David Nastvold were making their way toward the front and appeared in the top five as the laps wound down. Krause made several attempts to steal the lead away from Randall, but was unsuccessful as Randall went on to pick up his 10th feature win of the season ahead of Krause, Hanson, Laumb and Nastvold.

Super Stocks were up next with Dan Arneson taking the lead at the start in his MOPAR powered # 20, leaving the battle on the speedway for second as Jon Duffy, Josh Rodewald and Matt Durnen duked it out for the spot three-wide early on. Jason Johnson and John Doelle were making their way toward the front after starting in the fifth and sixth rows respectively and were both in the top five by lap 4.

After a quick caution, Johnson shot to the inside of Arneson and stole the lead away as the field raced down the backstretch. Doelle and Duffy were now locked in battle for the third spot, which Doelle was able to take over on lap 7. Doelle then set off after Arneson, who he caught and easily dispensed of on the following circuit to take over second.

Once Doelle assumed the second spot, he came after Johnson in a hurry and began to dog him for the lead until he was able to blast by him in turn one into the top spot, which he would then hold to the finish. As the white flag flew, Johnson made one last attempt to take the lead away, and actually got into the back of Doelle as they raced into turn three for the final time and spun himself out. Johnson gave it a try and made the finish very exciting but when all was said and done Doelle was celebrating his first win of the season at his new home track. Rodewald ran a great race to finish in second with Kevin Glander sneaking through the mess on the last lap to come home in third.

Ron Britain took the lead at the opening green flag of the Modified feature with Les Duellman and Hank Rollinger Jr. running side by side for second on the first lap. Duellman took over second and slipped by Britain on the next circuit to take command in his # 0. Steve Wetzstein made up ground very quickly as he appeared in third on lap 4 and then snuck to the inside of Rollinger for second on lap 6.

Duellman had amassed a huge advantage over the field, but Wetzstein was determined to try to track him down. After a lap 11 caution, Dan Hesch and Shane Wehrs were fighting for position, which Wehrs stole on lap 12 and then Shane set off after Britain and snatched the fourth stop away on the next go round.

Duellman still continued to run away out front with Wetzstein a solid second. Wehrs and Rollinger battled for third as Hesch and Todd Scharkey were also battling for fifth as the laps wound down. Duellman went on to win his second feature of the season at the Ridge followed by Wetzstein, Rollinger, Wehrs and Hesch.

Keith Foss shot into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the Late Model feature and set off into the night as Lance Matthees tried to stay within striking distance of the leader. Bob Timm and Tom Nesbitt were battling for fourth. Foss stayed out front as Matthees began to cut into his advantage while Barry Underdahl was under siege from Nesbitt and Timm throughout the first ½ of the race.

Matthees reeled in Foss on lap 10 and began to try to take a look under Keith for the lead, but could not complete the pass, which allowed Nesbitt to join the fight and begin to battle with Matthees for second as the laps began to wind down.

As the white flag flew, Foss went on to his second feature win of his rookie season, while Matthees had to hold off Nesbitt for second. Barry Underdahl and Mike Bear rounded out the top five finishers after Timm was disqualified for not going directly to the scale after the race.

Racing action resumes at the Ridge this Friday with a regular program set to get under way at 7:30. For more information, please check out the track's website at www.foxridgespeedway.com.
