SLAYTON, MN (February 10, 1999) - I.M.C.A. Hobby Stocks are new to the program this season, at the Murray County Raceway in Slayton. Opening night at the 3/8-mile clay oval is scheduled for May 14. Regular race nights continue on Fridays through August 27.

"There are a lot of Hobby Stock drivers at other I.M.C.A.-sanctioned tracks around here, and I feel it's better that we're sanctioned, too," promoter Scott Kieve said. "We had a couple meetings and more drivers were for sanctioning than against it, so that's the way we went."

New lights have been installed around the inside and outside of the track, which will sport a new look this season.

"We've made a lot of improvements to our track this year," Kieve said. "We put about 2,000 yards of dirt on it, re-banked it, sloped it and made it a little wider."

I.M.C.A. also sanctions the Stock Car division at the Murray County Speedway. John Fitzgerald of Rushmore is the defending champion in that class.
