Northwest Bonus money on the line as NKF Tour visits Murray County

SLAYTON, Minn. (July 24, 2001) – Extra cash will be up for grabs when the National Kidney Foundation Heartland Tour for a Cure visits the Murray County Speedway on Friday, August 3rd. Not only will all of the Modified and Hobby Stock drivers be competing for a solid purse during the evening’s action, there will also be several competitors who will be focused on the NKF Tour’s "Northwest Bonus" cash.

In the Modifieds, Worthington, Minnesota driver Kevin Pospisil has the inside track for the $500 Bonus as he holds a 27-point advantage over Dan DeMey of Denison, Iowa. Pospisil hopes to add to that lead on a track that he is very familiar with as the Slayton race is the next to the last event on the Northwest Bonus schedule that concludes on October 20th at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa.

In the Hobby Stocks the Murray County race is the final event of the Northwest Bonus schedule and $200 will go to the champion at the end of the evening. With his recent win in Alta, Iowa, Rick Soules of Worthington has a slight advantage over the defending NKF Tour Hobby Stock Champion Dan Hanselman of Algona, Iowa. Kit Hovey of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Chad Palmer of Renwick, Iowa, Jeremy Smith of Wilmont, Minnesota, Mike Grantham of Clarksville, Iowa and Donovan Smith of Lake City, Iowa, also have a shot at the bonus, but if they want it they will have to come and get it on August 3rd in Slayton.

The Heartland Tour for a Cure is now in its fourth season of providing race fans with on-track action while raising the public awareness of kidney disease. In 1999 the Tour was nationally recognized for its efforts to communicate the early signs of kidney disease and the importance of early detection to its audience. The importance of having a signed organ donor card is also stressed to those in attendance making for a night of racing that is not only entertaining, but potentially life-saving.
