Joachim, Fitzpatrick in I-90 Speedway winners circle

HARTFORD, S.D.—Kevin Joachim outraced a fast USRA B-Mod field Saturday at the I-90 speedway with plenty of drivers showing they belonged in front. Aaron Wiersma jumped out to a nice lead early but faded. He was passed by Curt Ahlers on the eighth lap but Ahlers couldn't hold back Kevin Joachim. Joachim led the final three laps for his second win. Chris Moore, Chris Goetz, Doug Wallis, Tim Dann and Dennis Martin all looked, at times, like they had cars good enough to win as the field made a statement about how competitive the class is on most nights. Ahlers took second. Dennis Martin came from 11th to third.

Andrew Siemonsma had a shaky start to the USRA Hobby Stock A-Main. After a beautiful save in turn four, Siemonsma lost it in the second turn while leading on the third lap. His caution dashed a chance at a second straight feature win. Dylan Fitzpatrick took over and led the rest of the 12 lap event. "The track was great, nice and wide," said Fitzpatrick, adding, "Chaney was there and I knew I had to hit my marks." Mike Chaney was second after starting eighth. Michalob Voeltz continued his steady run with a top three.

I-90 Speedway's annual Powder Puff race is this Saturday night. All five Paramount Racing Series divisions are also in action. Hot laps begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Go to www.i90speedway.com for more information.
