Cummins, Kath capture feature wins at Chateau Raceway

LANSING, Minn.—This week was the annual fireworks night at Chateau Raceway and a big crowd was on hand to watch the action in the sky and on the track. A good field of cars was on hand and once again they put on a good show for the fans.

For the second week in a row the KIK Graphics & Printing USRA B-Mod feature was a caution riddled event. Josh Mattick would lead the race through all the yellow flags and tenth starter Kylie Kath would eventually get to second. One of the many yellows on lap seven would set up an interesting race for the lead.

Kath used the low groove and stormed to the lead on lap nine. Mattick then dove low in turn one made contact with Kath. They continued on and Mattick reclaimed the lead in three. Mattick was in the low groove and Kath was up top while they battled for the lead. Another yellow came out as Mattick hit one of the infield cones and was sent to the tail.

That yellow was the fifth and laps were cut to set up a two-lap dash to the finish and Kath made it three wins in a row. Kadden Kath would finish second with Mike Chisholm in third. Mitch Weiss would finish in fourth and Raey Hastings IV finished fifth. Of the 16-cars that started the race only five were around at the checkered flag.

Steve Wetzstein took the lead off of row one in the French’s Repair & Fabrication USRA Modified feature. Jason Cummins passed Todd Scharkey for second with Darwyn Karau behind them. The caution came out on lap two when Wetzstein hit a cone and was sent to the back. Cummins then had the lead with Scharkey and Karau racing for second. Brandon Davis entered the top five on lap three.

Karau took second on lap fourth while Davis was fourth and then got by Scharkey for third on lap six. Cummins had checked out up front, but a caution flag flew on lap eight when Karau hit it and that sent him to the back. Cummins and Davis then waged a pretty good battle for the lead and Jacob Dahle had now raced his way to third. Wetzstein was on the charge from the back and was back up to fourth on lap 11.

Wetzstein got by Dahle for third and set after the lead duo. Cummins and Davis had a good race going on but Wetzstein got called for another cone violation and since it was his second yellow he was sent to the pits. After that the race for the lead was tremendous. Cummins and Davis were side-by side on lap 20 with Davis scored the leader. They continued door-to-door on lap 21 and Cummins reclaimed the lead on lap 22.

Davis pressed hard on a treacherous cushion at the top of the track. Davis had just the slightest push on lap 23 and that was enough for Cummins to take his second win of the year. Davis followed in second with Dahle third and Karau rebounded to fourth. Greg Jensen finished in fifth for his second top five finish of the season.
