Davis, Anderson, Nieman victors at Lakeside Speedway

KANSAS CITY, Kan.—The weather was hot on Friday night but the fans and racers turned out for another great night of racing at the Home for Dirt Track Racing in Kansas City, Lakeside Speedway.

The USRA Stock Car main event got started on a wild note as Jeff Elder, who has been running strong lately, came off the bottom of the track in turn 4 on the opening lap that caused him to flip and several cars to sustain damage. After a red flag the race would resume.

As the green flag waved once again Kevin Anderson got the advantage early over Jake Newman and John O'Neal Jr. Anderson came into the night with 4 wins to his credit and starting from the pole position #5 looked like a strong possibility.

Newman would suffer problems running down Anderson and would pull off the speedway, it would bring out the yellow and set up a restart late in the race wiping out Anderson's big lead.

Anderson got right back out to the lead on this green, white, checkered restart and it was smooth sailing to the finish as he would pick up win #5 on the year, the most in the USRA Stock Car division.

John O'Neal would have no challengers as he came home in the 2nd spot, Nate Barnes finished in the 3rd spot, the points leader, Brett Heeter rolled to a 4th place finish and the hard charger of the night was Jason Ryun who went from 16th to 5th in the feature.

Heat race winners were Anderson, Newman and O'Neal.

A pair of hot shoes, Andy Bryant and Brad Smith, started off at the front of the field for the USRA B-Mod Main event. Smith would lead lap 1, but Bryant would capitalize on a Smith bobble and it put him it put him into the lead.

Luke Nieman, who has been having a good season, worked his way around Gene Claxton for 3rd and was looking to run down the top two.

The Smith and Bryant battle would see Smith go back into the lead. Smith would have trouble as he would get turned around in turn 2 just after a restart for a previous yellow.

Bryant would now start as the leader on the field. Chad Clancy and Ed Noll, feature winners from earlier in the season, were also in the top 4 on the restart waiting to make a move.

Nieman would be be the hero on this night. On the restart he got a good run coming out of turn 2 and put his hot rod to the middle of 3 and 4 exiting with the lead over Bryant. It would be a lead that Nieman would not give up for the rest of the race as he roared to his 1st win of the season at Lakeside Speedway.

Bryant won the battle for 2nd over Chad Clancy who finished in the 3rd spot after starting 12th, the points leader, Ed Noll, raced to a 4th place finish and Gene Claxton came in the 5th position.

Heat race winners were Nieman, Noll, Smith and Bryant. Don Marrs won the B Feature.

Another pair of fast racers, Nic Bidinger and Kerry Davis, brought the field to the green flag to start off the USRA Modified Feature.

Davis would get the advantage on Bidinger out of turn 2 on the opening lap. Bidinger would give chase. Davis, who came in as the points leader and the racer with the most wins (4) in the class, scooted out to a big lead in this race.

As Davis continues to fire on all cylinders he wouldn't be denied on this night as he roared to win #6 on the season.

Bidinger would finished in the runner-up spot, Mark Schafman raced his way to 3rd and the best battle of the night saw Tim Karrick, who slipped up early, get by Aarron Marrant for 4th while Marrant settled for 5th.

Heat race winners were Bidinger and Karrick.

Next Friday night, July 24, the spectator gates will open up at 5 p.m., hot laps will be at 6:45 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $12, kids 7 to 12 are $6, children under 6 are free. Military personnel, students and seniors get in for $10 with proper ID.
