Twelve features, 11 winners at Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway

MEMPHIS, Mo. -- A busy night of USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series racing at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway Saturday produced 11 feature winners in 12 features. The rained-out features from the May 21st Sonny's Collision Center and Trump Trucks Night were the opening act, with Tony Fraise (USRA Modifieds), Troy Alexander (USRA Stock Cars), Jack Evans Jr. (USRA B-Modifieds), Mark Holt (USRA Hobby Stocks), Keith Reed (Cruisers) and Brandon Savage (Hornets) picking up features wins.

Then, Zack VanderBeek (USRA Modifieds), John Oliver Jr. (USRA Stock Cars), Tony Dunker (USRA B-Modifieds), Mike Shelton (USRA Hobby Stocks), Keith Reed (Cruisers) and Dennis Schulte (Hornets) claimed feature wins on Primrose Realty and Kay Eggelston Bookkeeping Night.

Wyatt Lantz led the field to the green flag on lap 4 of the rained-out 12-lap USRA B-Modifed feature, with Jack Evans Jr. and Chris Larson close behind in second. Lantz would hold the top spot until lap 6, when Evans Jr. slipped under him for the lead. Evans Jr. then held off Lantz by inches at the line to pick up his third win in a row at Memphis. Larson came from 12th to finish third, Tony Dunker was fourth, with Jeff Waterman rounding out the top-5.

The rained-out 15-lap USRA Stock Car feature saw Troy Alexander and Harley Hill on the front row, with Alexander jumping out front on the start. Alexander would lead all 15 laps and held off several challenges from Matt Greiner, who pulled out on lap 13 with overheating problems, to claim his third win of the season at the speedway. T.J. Criss came from eighth to finish in second, Jason Cook was third, John Oliver Jr. was fourth, with Rodger Dresden coming home fifth.

Up next was the make-up 12-lap USRA Hobby Stock feature, which had Tim Pettibone and Bob Lynch on the front row. Mark Holt, who started third, moved out front on the drop of the green flag and never looked back, as he pulled away from the field to pick up his second win of the season at Memphis. Mike Shelton came from 8th to finish second, Lynch held on for third, Tony Becerra was fourth, with Brandon Symmonds coming from 10th to round out the top-5.

Brandon Savage and Brent Forest led the field to the drop of the green flag in the make-up 10-lap Hornet feature, with Savage grabbing the lead on lap 1. Savage led all 10 laps and held off Tyler Schulte, who started 10th, to pick up his second win in a row at the speedway. Dennis Schulte came from eighth to finish third, Forest was fourth, with Michael Grossman coming home fifth.

The rained out 10 lap Cruiser feature saw Keith Reed and Michael St. Clair on the front row, with Reed moving out front on lap 1. Reed would hold off St. Clair through the entire 10 laps to claim his first win of 2005 at Memphis. Dave Hudson was third, Craig Spilker was fourth, with Bill O'Haver rounding out the top-5.

The final make-up feature of the evening was the 20-lap USRA Modifieds, with Darin Walker and Michael Long on the front row. Third place starter David Wietholder grabbed the lead on the drop of the green flag, with Tony Fraise following him in second. Fraise would slip under Wietholder on lap 2 to over take the top spot. Fraise then led the final 18 laps to pick up his first win of 2005 at the speedway. Long edged out Mark Burgtorf by inches for second, Zack VanderBeek was fourth, with Bob Dale coming home fifth.

Logan Trueblood and Bob Woodrow led the field to the drop of the green flag in the regular night 12 lap USRA B-Modified feature, but it was sixth place starter Chris Larson grabbing the lead on lap 1. Larson would hold the top spot until lap 7, when Tony Dunker slipped by for the lead. Dunker then held off a charging Jack Evans Jr., who started 16th, on the final laps to pick up his second win of the season at the Memphis. Larson held on for third, Wyatt Lantz came from ninth to finish fourth, with Larry Newman rounding out the top-5. Larson and Dunker claimed the heat race wins.

Up next was the 15-lap USRA Stock Car feature, with Jody Small and Kiel Morton on the front row. John Oliver Jr. would move out front on the drop of the green flag, with Rodger Dresden close behind in second. Dresden would jump to the outside of Oliver to lead lap 5, with Oliver coming back on the bottom to grab the top spot back. Oliver would hold the lead until lap 10, when Matt Greiner, who started 14th, went by on the top to take over the lead. But Oliver would come back on the bottom to take the lead again on lap 11. Oliver then held off Jason Cook and Greiner on the final four laps to claim his first career Stock Car feature win. Troy Alexander was fourth, with Dresden coming home in fifth. Heat race winners were Alexander, Dresden and Small.

The 12-lap USRA Hobby Stock feature saw Mark Holt and Mike Shelton on the front row, with Shelton moving out front on the drop of the green flag. Shelton would lead all 12 laps to pick up his second win of the season at Memphis. Tony Becerra was second, Holt was third, Justin Hamelton was fourth, with Abe Huls rounding out the top-5. Brian Howerton, Becerra and Shelton claimed wins in the heat races.

Brandon Savage and Jim Hamilton led the field to the green flag in the 10-lap Hornet feature, with Savage moving out front on lap 1. Savage would only lead one lap, as Dennis Schulte got by on lap 2. Schulte then led the final eight laps to claim his third win of the season at the Speedway. Tyler Schulte came from eighth to finish second, Savage held on for third, Michael Grossman came from the rear after jumping the start to finish fourth, with Dustin Savage coming home fifth. Heat race winners were Tyler Schulte and Dennis Schulte.

The 10-lap Cruiser feature saw the only repeat winner of the evening, as Keith Reed held on to win his second win of the night. Dave Hudson would grab the lead on the start and then held it until lap 7, when Reed slipped by for the top spot. Reed then held off a challenge from Hudson on the final lap to pick up his second win of 2005 at Memphis. Craig Spilker was third, Matt Bockenfeld was fourth, with Jeremy Buss rounding out the top-5. Spilker and Hudson claimed heat race wins.

The final feature of the evening was the 20-lap USRA Modified feature. Promoter Todd Staley put up a challenge to Tony Fraise, who drew number 1, and Mark Burgtorf, who drew number 3, to start in the back of the field and if they came up to win he would give them a $500 bonus. Both drivers took the challenge, which put Martin Bennett and Jim Gillenwater on the front row. Bennett would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1, with Zack VanderBeek following close behind in second. Bennett then held the top spot until lap 8, when VanderBeek slipped under him to take over the lead. VanderBeek then held off a charging Burgtorf and Fraise to claim his first win of 2005 at the speedway. Michael Long came from 10th to finish fourth, with Ryan Meyer coming from 11th to round out the top-5. Heat race winners were Fraise and Long.

Coming up next week will be the J's Foods Stock Car Shootout, with the winner of the USRA Stock Car feature taking home $1,000. Also, racing will continue in the USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series in the USRA Modifieds, B-Modifeds and Hobby Stocks, with the Cruisers and Hornets also racing for track points. Gates will open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:15 with racing to follow.
