Fraise extends win streak to five at Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway
MEMPHIS, Mo. -- Tony Fraise (USRA Modifieds) continued to add to his win streak at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway, as the USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series rolled forward. Also adding to there win columns on Slayton Polaris and Helena Night were Tommy Elston (Late Models), Jason Cook (USRA Stock Cars), Jack Evans Jr. (USRA B-Modifieds), Abe Huls (USRA Hobby Stocks), Michael St.Clair (Cruisers) and Dennis Schulte (Hornets).
The first feature to take to the track was the 15 lap USRA B-Modifieds, with Kelly O'Haver and Jack Evans Jr. on the front row. Evans Jr. grabbed the top spot on the drop of the green flag and would build a good lead, when the caution came out on lap 13. On the restart, Evans Jr. stayed out front with Jim Gillenwater, who started 7th, and Wyatt Lantz, who started 8th, tring to get by Evans Jr. But Evans Jr. would hold them off to claim his sixth win of 2005 at Memphis. Finishing fourth was Michael Browning, with Larry Newman coming home in fifth. Joe Blivens and Evans Jr. won the heat race events.
Dave Hudson and Michael St.Clair led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 10 lap Cruiser feature, with St.Clair jumping out to the lead on lap 1. St.Clair would hold off several challenges from Hudson to pick up his third win of the season. Jeremy Buss came from eighth to finish in third, Bill O'Haver started tenth and finished fourth, with Daniels Robbins coming from eleventh to round out the top 5. Heat race winners were Hudson and St.Clair.
Next up was the 15 lap USRA Hobby Stock feature, with Jim Walker and Jim Lynch on the front row. On the drop of the green flag, Abe Huls, who started fifth, charged up to take the top spot, with Walker and Mike Shelton battling for second. Huls would hold off a charge from Tony Becerra, who was back behind the car he rolled at the fair last Tuesday, to pick up his second win of the season at the speedway. Shelton was third, Walker held on for fourth, with Mark Holt coming from eleventh to round out the top five. Holt, Becerra and Huls each picked up a heat race win.
The 10 lap Hornet feature had Travis DeMint and Bill Young on the front row, but it was fourth place started Brandon Savage grabbing the lead on lap 1. Savage would hold the top spot until lap 3, when Dennis Schulte, who started seventh, slipped under him for the lead. Schulte then held off Savage thru heavy lap traffic to claim his fifth win of 2005 at Memphis. Brent Forest was third, DeMint was fourth, with Jim Hamilton coming home in fifth. Heat race winners were Savage and Schulte.
Jason Cook and Michael Browning led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 15 lap USRA Stock Car feature, with Cook moving out front on lap 1. Cook would go on to lead all 15 laps to claim his 5th win of the season at the speedway. Browning was second, Troy Alexander came from seventh to finish in third, Ryan Cook was fourth, with Matt Greiner rounding out the top five. R.Cook and Alexander picked up the heat race wins.
Tony Fraise extended his win streak to five, as he claimed the win in the 20 lap USRA Modified feature. Fraise and Zack VanderBeek drew the front row for the feature, with Fraise jumping out front on lap 1. Fraise then held off Mark Burgtorf during the last restart to pick up his fifth win in a row at Memphis. VanderBeek was third, Ryan Meyer came from tenth to finish in fourth, with Kevin Cale coming home in fifth. Heat race winners were Fraise and Burgtorf.
The final feature of the evening was the 20 lap Late Models, presented by Wood Amoco BP. Tommy Elston and Denny Woodworth led the field to the drop of the green flag, with Elston moving out front on lap 1. Elston would pull away from the field to pick up his second win in a row at the speedway. Chris Smyser was second, Jody Wood was third, Jeff Laue was fourth, with Thad Trump coming from ninth to round out the top five. Elston and Smyser claimed wins in the heat races.
Coming up next week will be the O'Reilly United States Modified Touring Series, as they end there four day swing at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway. Next weeks sponsors are Walker Motors Collision and Repair and Spilman Auto Parts. The O'Reilly USMTS have tried two times this season to get a race in at Memphis, but mother natue hasn't been to kind. Let's hope third times a charm. Gates next week will open at 4:30 pm, hot laps at 6:30 and racing to follow.
