Tricky track suits Gallardo well

EL PASO, Texas—The 2016 season at the Western Tech Speedway Park has officially arrived. The USRA Modifieds will be the high-flying main feature Friday night as the Gallardos—Fito and Jake—looked to pick up where they left off last season. Also joining the USRA Modifieds were Holley USRA Stock Cars, Casa Nissan Legends Cars, Southwest Late Models and Super Trucks.

Packed house and packed pits were a destiny to be some great racing all night.

Holley USRA Stock Cars had some good heat racing and the feature was to be no different. Jaime Torres and Jason Josselyn have had some back and forth for the last season and tonight they ran 1-2 for the first eight laps with Martin Robinson running right on their bumpers the entire time. Robinson made his move and around Josselyn he went for second. After taking second, it didn’t take long for the Robinson to also make work of Torres. Robinson drove away from the field to take win #1 on the 2016 season. Josselyn held on to second as Torres tried to charge back but stuck in third.

It would be a Gallardo show as both Fito and Jake started on the front row. Jake Gallardo started on the pole with Fito to his outside. Jake led the first two laps but Fito wasn’t about to be denied by the youngster and on the third lap Fito would take it. Phillip Houston also worked his way into third after a few laps but the Gallardos were way ahead and not looking back. As the checkered flag flew, Fito Gallardo picked up where he left off and got the win. Houston gave it a good run but headed back to Odessa with a second. Donovan Flores held on to a solid third.

Tonight was an awesome season opener and if you missed it then you will not want to miss out next weekend as the 305 Winged Sprint Cars invade both Western Tech Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway. Gates open at 5:30. Racing starts at 7:45. Join us as we make some dust in the desert.
