KANSAS CITY, Kan.—Temperatures have been rising all week long in the Kansas City—as well most of the Midwest—but the racers and fans turned out for their favorite past time on Friday night: dirt track racing at Lakeside Speedway.

A whopping 25 cars showed up to battle it out in the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod division on C.A.R.B. Night.

Heading into the season the class had been dominated by the Clancys. Chad Clancy has the most wins and leads the points in the early part of the season and brother Steven Clancy has won the last two features.

J.C. Morton returned to Lakeside on Friday for the first time since picking up a dominating win earlier in the season, and he showed that early win in the year was no fluke.

As the race got underway it was Morton who grabbed control early. Several drivers jockeyed for position behind him, but it was Morton leading the way with Tim Powell right behind him.

They stayed this way for a majority of the feature as they worked through lapped traffic, but a late-race yellow gave the competition a shot at Morton one last time.

The green waved once again and the outcome was the same: Morton took back to the lead as the seconnd- through fifth-place racers began to battle each other more.

At the checkers it was Morton getting his second win in just his second try this season. Shad Turner won a good battle with Powell for the second spot, fourth went to hard-charging Brad Smith, who started all the way back in 15th. Rounding out the top five was Trevor Hunt.

Aaron Marrant dominated the ULMA Late Model feature, and then picked up another win by more than a straight-away over the second-place competitor in the USRA Modified feature.

At the start of this one, Marrant checked out on the field. as his hot rod looked to be head and shoulders above the competition.

The battle started shaping up for the second spot and in the end it was Tim Karrick finishing in the runner-up position. Mark Schafman raced his way to a third-place finish, fourth went to Nic Bidinger and Kerry Davis, the current points leader, finished in fifth.

In the USRA Stock Car feature it was a repeat performance for points leader Brett Heeter.

Heeter started on the front row next to Lucas Conley as the green flag flew. Heeter jumped out to the early lead but the action would be halted as multiple feature winner Kevin Anderson got upside down in turn 4.

When the green flag came back out, it was Heeter blasting his way to the front one more time. It was the last time the competition gave Heeter any trouble as he sped away to another USRA Stock Car feature win.

The win, along with Anderson’s misfortune, helped Heeter add to his points lead.

Conley held on for the second spot at the finish, third went to 10th-starting Trevor Hunt, fourth was Kevin McGinnis and Steve Herrick filled out the top 5.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday as the No Limits Monster Truck Summer Nationals roars into Lakeside Speedway.
