Kids' Night, free admission, bike giveaways Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway


WHEATLAND, Mo.—It's all about the youngsters when racing returns Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway as KQFX Fox 22 Presents a Special Kids' Night with ages 15 and under admitted free. And that's not the only perk.

The "Frogs Signs Jr Fan Club" members will be eligible to be in a drawing for free bicycles, donated by areas businesses and Lucas Oil Speedway drivers, to be awarded during intermission. Kids can sign up to join at the "Frogs Signs Jr Fan Club" table and different-sized bikes will be awarded to different age groups.

Frogs Signs and U.S. Automotive are among those donating the bicycles, according to Lucas Oil Speedway Assistant General Manager Danny Lorton.

"We're appreciative of those companies, several of our drivers and some of our track officials for their efforts in rounding up bicycles to help make it a special night for the kids," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said. "Along with our Free Kids Fridays this season, this is another opportunity for youngsters to enjoy a terrific free night at the races in a family friendly environment - and for those of all ages to see some great racing."

Free Kids Fridays sees youngsters 11-and-under admitted free during all special Friday events this season at the speedway. The next one is Sept. 2 for opening day of the 6th annual Diamond Drag Boat Nationals.

USRA B-Mods in the spotlight: The Budweiser Weekly Championship Series resumes on Saturday with the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods featured with a 25-lap, $500-to-win feature.

The ALPS Food Store ULMA Late Models, Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds and Carson's Corner NAPA Street Stocks also will be in action as gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30 p.m.

Championship chases: In the B-Mod division, points leader J.C. Morton of Springfield will be aiming for a second straight feature victory. Morton's points lead has grown to 145 over Kris Jacks of Lebanon.

Another wide lead exists in the Street Stocks after Derek Brown of Stoutland grabbed his seventh feature win last week. Brown is 158 in front of Eldon's Steve Beach.

Closer points chases exist in the other divisions. Bolivar's Jeff Cutshaw is 29 ahead of Eric Turner of Hermitage for the USRA Modified lead. In the ULMA Late Models, Richmond's Aaron Marrant leads Robert James Penney of Lawson by 80.

Diamond Nationals coming: A reminder, the 10th annual CMH Diamond Nationals featuring the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series is coming up on July 16. The event, co-sanctioned by the Lucas MLRA, awards $12,000 and a diamond ring, to the feature winner. The USRA Modifieds also are scheduled to run for a $750 winner's check courtesy of Hermitage Lumber.
