Bellm bags BST Modified Series opener

GOODLAND, Kan. (May 6) -- The USRA-sanctioned BST Modified Series opened their 2006 racing season Saturday as 35 of the region's hottest modified drivers converged on the Sherman County Speedway in Goodland, Kan.

During the drivers meeting prior to the start of the races, Sherman County Speedway officials informed drivers that they must report to the infield scales following the main event, or be subject to disqualification.

Unfortunately for two drivers, track officials kept their word.

Despite the crossing the finish line first and second in Saturday's main event, Brady Coen and Darren DeLoach were disqualified after failing to complete the post-race weigh-in.

This handed the trophy and first-place prize to Joe Bellm of Broomfield, Colo., who jumped from third to first on the final score sheets. The Brack Brothers -- Will and Bill -- from Meade, Colo., captured the second and third-place finishes, while Jeremy Frenier and Jeff Tubbs rounded out the top-5 finishers.
