Arpin, Sorensen slide to crowd's approval at Deer Creek

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -- A perfect night for racing greeted the crowd with bright sunny and warm skies early in the night while cooling down for feature action while the racing action heated up on the track.

Bernatello’s Pizza and Firestone were the nightly sponsors of the racing action at the Southern Minnesota speedplant.

Drivers and fans were treated to out of car introductions during the opening ceremony for the point leaders heading into the mid-season points championship night. Current USRA Modified points leader heading into the night was Mike Sorensen.

The Bigelow Homes USRA Modifieds had a barn burner tonight.

Mike Sorensen jumped into the lead at the start with Steve Arpin and Bobby Sorensen working each other for second.

Arpin took control of the second spot while the rest of the field raced two and three wide on a perfect modified race track.

Nate Wasmund and Brad Waits ran side by side for the fourth spot with twenty one to go.

Arpin was making the high side come to life while Sorensen ran the bottom of the speedway.

The position changes inside the top ten were fast and furious during the first twelve laps of the race.

With thirteen to go lapped traffic really came into play as Sorensen got slowed by lapped cars Arpin was able to gain ground and pulled up on the bumper of Sorensen’s.

Eleven to go they crossed the line side by side and then the fun began.

Arpin led with ten to go, nine to go and side by side at the line.

On the next lap Sorensen moved backed into the lead, as they entered turn one Arpin dove under and slid up in front of Sorensen but the crafty veteran lifted, turned left and drove back around Arpin for the lead.

Arpin led with seven to go as traffic slowed down the slide jobs.

A caution with three to go set up a green, white and checker dash.

Arpin led from there to the checkers while Sorensen and Bob Timm battled for the second spot.

The duo crossed the line in a virtual dead heat with Sorensen taking the second spot.
