Mississippi Thunder Speedway releases 2017 schedule

Mississippi Thunder Speedway began the new year of 2017 by releasing initial details for what looks to be an amazing and exciting ninth year of action at the fast, wide and racy big 1/3-mile dirt oval situated just an echo away from the banks of the mighty Mississippi River.

Returning for another season of excitement will be weekly on-track action from Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modifieds, Centerville Welding & Repair USRA Late Models, Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mods and Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stocks. Other classes includes REDBOX+ 600 Mods, MTS Hornets and Sunshine Refuse  Slingshots (on the Lightning Speedway).

Several visits are planed for the Holley USRA Stock Cars.

A tentative 2017 season schedule has been put together which once again presents all the ingredients necessary to make Friday nights at Mississippi Thunder Speedway the "Must Be There" destination for racers and race fans alike.

The 2017 season gets the green flag compliments of an open invitation to both racers and fans with the 2017 car show scheduled for Saturday, April 22, at Dahl Auto Plaza in their brand new state-of-the-art dealership at 1201 W. Hwy. 61 in Winona, Minn.

Once the new machinery has been unveiled, the next date on the schedule is the 2017 season opener on Friday, April 28.

Other highlights of the 20-week season include:

  • June 13 ... Inaugural Steamboat Days Race for a Cause - A Tuesday program with general admission just $5 or free with a Steamboat Days button.
  • May 26 ... USMTS Northern Region presented by Summit Racing.
  • June 30 ... 9th Annual Rivercity Rumble with $2,000 to win for both USRA Modifieds and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods.
  • July 28 ... 9th Annual Baehman B-Mod Challenge (with Holley USRA Stock Cars).
  • Aug. 18 ... 3rd Annual Hornet Swarm.
  • Aug. 25 ... 2017 Season Championships.
  • Sept. 7-9 ... 6th Annual Dahl Auto Plaza Modified Nationals.
  • Oct. 6-7 ... 9th Annual Fall Festival.
