Donlinger holds on for Deer Creek victory

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -- Slightly overcast skies but perfect conditions greeted the fans and drivers at the Southern Minnesota speedplant on Saturday night. A great field of 115 cars was on hand for the Saturday night racing action.

A special thanks to Olympic Fire and Protection and Mike's Hard Lemonade for the announcement that during the next two weeks of racing action drivers will be admitted free into the pit area for the nights racing action. In times of high gas prices and added costs to the drivers this is a greatly appreciated sponsorship by these two great supporters of racing action here at Deer Creek Speedway.

Nate Wasmund powered through on the bottom side of turn two to take the lead during the Bigelow Homes USRA Modified feature. Tim Donlinger also moved low and on lap two started to challenge Wasmund for the lead.

A caution with 20 two to go saw Wasmund continue to lead as Donlinger was being pressured by Todd Scharkey for second. By this time Donlinger was running high and Scharkey was hugging the bottom of the Speedway while Brad Waits, Neil Eckhart, Steve Arpin and Ryan Ruter were dicing it up for the fourth spot.

On the next lap Donlinger and Scharkey split Wasmund for the lead. Two laps later the lead was decided as Donlinger took control up high.

Mark Noble was now running through the field and was into the fifth spot after starting 12th.

With 16 to go Donlinger had built up a sizeable lead with Wasmund and Scharkey still swapping the second and third spots.

A caution with 14 to go bunched the field back up. Donlinger continued to lead while Noble cleared into fourth, with virtually every line on the track working two- and three-wide racing was the norm for the USRA Modifieds.

With 10 to go Wasmund moved under Scharkey for second again while Noble moved alongside of Scharkey two laps later. Ruter also was still running strong and started moving forward again, now sitting in fourth.

A final caution with five to go saw Noble move into second and on Donlinger's bumper ,but with the high momentum line working Donlinger held on for the win.

Noble finished second, Ruter third, Wasmund fourth and 21st-starting Tommy Myer rounding out the top five.
