Over 1,000 fans came out Saturday to watch the best racing action in the Southwest as the Southern New Mexico Speedway featured the $5,000-to-win Stock Car Smack Down, with USRA Modifieds also joining the action.

A field of 29 USRA Modifieds checked in for battle calling for a great 25-lap feature. Shane Helton shared the front row with Jesse Hayne, but Fito Gallardo took it away at the start as the inside row two starter knew it was go time as he shared the second row with Bumper Jones.

By lap 10, Gallardo found some breathing space as Jones was a half straight-way behind. That all went away on lap 13 due to a caution. Tom Georges brought out the final caution on lap 19 for going over turn two. It was an easy drive to the checkered flag from there for Gallardo as he won his second USRA Modified feature of the weekend.

The Holley USRA Stock Cars battled 50 laps for a grand prize of $5,000 with Nathan Smith and Travis Sutherlin sharing the front row. Smith led the first lap until Jacob Gallardo took the lead on lap two. By lap sixteen six, the caution flew and the action began as Donovan Flores worked his way to second.

Gallardo pulled away from the field as Flores followed with Victor Colobrio jumping to third after starting 18th. At the halfway mark, Colobrio challenged Flores for second but Flores came to life and held him off.

On lap 38, Gallardo had company as Flores caught the leader. Flores worked his way around Gallardo on lap 39 before a caution flew on lap 41. Gallardo found himself third, and on lap 43 his engine went sour.

Flores, who captured the 2013 Holley USRA Stock Car national championship, took care of the final laps to claim the $5,000 payday.
